GLASSBORO, NJ – The College of New Jersey had a 162-123 victory over Rowan University to win the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions are 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference. The Profs have a 7-4 record with a 2-1 NJAC mark. TCNJ won (1:35.12) the 200 medley relay with the team of Aleksander Buzynski (so. Colonia, NJ/St. Joseph’s), James Shangle (fr. Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park), William Kasper (jr. Forked River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and Stephen Gibson (jr. Sewell, NJ/St. Augustine Prep). Rowan had a first place (3:14.90) in the 400 freestyle relay with Max Tyburski (sr. Burke, VA/Lake Braddock Secondary), Larry Dow (jr. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams), Tim Dimond (sr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Pat Malone (jr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic).
Tyburski was the winner in the 50 freestyle (21.20) and 100 butterfly (51.18). Kyle Surette (fr. Martinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) captured first (2:01.05) in the 200 individual medley and second in the 200 freestyle (1:46.33) and 200 backstroke (1:57.34). Zac Wister (so. Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) came in second in the 500 (4:53.85) and 1000 (10:03.40) freestyles. Dow was second (53.50) and third (48.03) in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle respectively.
Tyler Coe (fr. North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Twp.) took second (1:00.22) in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.73) and 200 IM (2:04.00). Chris Cannizzaro (so. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) had a second place (1:59.95) in the 200 butterfly and he was third (54.18) in the 100 butterfly. Patrick Myers (fr. Kennett Square, PA/Kennett) finished second in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.97) and 200 IM (2:03.33). Malone was third (2:00.36) in the 200 butterfly. Connor Buck (fr. Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) came in third (4:57.27) in the 500 freestyle. Jerry Johnson (fr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) captured second in the one (168.07 points) and three (155.02 points) meter diving.
For the Lions, Burzynski was a winner in the 100 (53.07) and 200 (1:56.93) backstrokes. Shangle won the 100 (58.53) and 200 (2:09.20) breaststrokes. Tarnowski had a first place (1:44.48) in the 200 freestyle. In the 100 freestyle, Gibson and Philip Hawley (jr. Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) were first (47.47) and second (47.91) respectively. Matthew Peveler (sr. Woodcliff Lake, NJ/Pascack Hills) took first (4:52.63) in the 500 freestyle and Mike Caputo (sr. Staten Island, NY/Curtis) won (10:01.19) the 1000 freestyle. Joseph Dunn (fr. Fanwood, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) came in first (1:56.74) in the 200 butterfly. Daniel Tsinis was the winner in the one (197.10 points) and three (201.97 points) meter diving.
Rowan concludes its conference schedule at Ramapo College on Saturday, February 2 at 2 p.m.
