Women's Basketball Defeats Wesley, 77-48

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team defeated nonconference opponent Wesley College, 77-48 on Wednesday night.

The Profs improve to 4-8 overall while the Wolverines drop to 2-9 on the season.  Guard Eyandra Molina (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Washington Irving (NY)) led the way with a career-high 20 points.  She also collected eight steals, five assists and four rebounds.  Guard Bria Hill (so. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) contributed with 16 points and seven boards.  Guard Jade Bonder (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) chipped in with 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.  Forward Megan Russ (jr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.) added eight points and six rebounds off the bench. 

For Wesley, center Heather Fuller (sr. Greenwood, DE/Sussex Tech) scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds.  Guard Pez Scott (so. Joppatowne, MD/Joppatowne) registered 11 points and guard Jazmine Miller (sr. Dover, DE/Dover) followed with nine.  Miller also had five boards, five steals and three assists.

In the first half, Rowan was ahead 12-2 at 15:45.  Molina and Hill each contributed with four points while forward Erin Farrell (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Bonder added two apiece.  The Profs had an eight point lead (12-4) at 15:21 then scored eight straight points, which made the score 20-4 (13:26).  Guard Tia Scott (fr. Paulsboro, NJ/Paulsboro), Farrell, Molina and Hill all had one basket.  Wesley had jumpers by Miller (11:07) and Pez Scott (8:42) to trail by 12 points (24-12) with 8:42 left.  Molina’s jump shot at 4:50 made the score 32-17.  Pez Scott hit the first of two free throws at 2:30 and the Wolverines were down by 12 points (33-21).  Hill (1:59) and Molina (1:37) each had a basket to lead by 16 (37-21).  Miller nailed a three (1:11) and Russ made a layup (:47) to end the period.  The Profs were up 39-24 at the break.  Molina totaled 13 points while Fuller produced 11.

Bonder’s layup at 15:16 in the second stanza put the Profs up by 21 (51-30).  Pez Scott had a basket (13:22), which made the score 51-34.  Rowan led by 24 points (58-34) after a 7-0 run with 12:24 remaining.  Molina had a three-point play while Bonder and Hill each produced a basket.  Russ’ layup at 8:10 gave the Profs a 30-point advantage (69-39).  Rowan’s biggest lead of the game was 31 (77-46) with 1:02 on the clock.  Forward Jess Clarke (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) hit the second of two foul shots. 

Rowan is home again on Saturday, January 5 against Ramapo College in a 3 p.m. conference game.
