Montclair State Women's Basketball Defeats Rowan, 106-36

MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Montclair State University women’s basketball team defeated Rowan University, 106-36 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday evening.

The Red Hawks, ranked 13th in the nation, are undefeated with a 17-0 record.  They are 9-0 in the conference.  The Profs are 4-13 overall and 0-9 in the NJAC.

Montclair State had five players that scored in double figures.  Guard Nicosia Henry (jr. Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) led the way with a game-high 16 points and six rebounds.  Forward Taylor Jeffers (sr. Franklin Twp., NJ/Franklin) contributed with 14 points and guard Janitza Aquino (so. Kearny, NJ/Kearny) followed with 13.  Aquino also dished six assists. 

Guard Kelly Williams (fr. Titusville, NJ/Hopewell Valley) and forward Melissa Tobie (so. Elizabeth, NJ/Roselle Catholic) added 11 and 10 points respectively.  Williams registered five assists.  Guard Shalette Brown (fr. Somerset, NJ/Franklin Twp.) chipped in with nine points and five boards.  Guard Jen Kuczynski (fr. Springfield, NJ/Jonathan Dayton) collected six rebounds.  For Rowan, guard Brian Hill (so. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) scored 10 points. 

At 17:03 in the first half, the score was tied at six after the Profs’ guard Eyandra Molina (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Washington Irvington (NY)) made a layup.  The Red Hawks led 21-6 after a  15-0 run that ended at 13:17.  Henry produced six points, Jeffers had four, Williams made a three and guard Sarah Kluth (jr. Lynbrook, NJ/St. Mary’s) sank two foul shots.  With 12:23 left, Montclair State was ahead by 13 points (23-10).  The Red Hawks pulled away with a 17-2 run for a 28 point advantage (40-12) at 7:54.  Tobie scored eight points in the surge. 

Montclair State built a 38 point advantage (53-15) at 2:23 after a 13-1 surge.  Aquino produced five points, Brown tallied four while guard Sandra Gee (fr. Allentown, PA)/Emmaus) and Kluth each had two.  Molina hit a jumper with 1:48 on the clock and Williams ended the period with a layup at 1:21.  The Red Hawks had a 38 point lead (55-17) at the break.  Henry totaled 12 points while Tobie posted 10.

In the second stanza, Williams’ jumper at 13:31 made the score 75-23.  At 10:10, Gee had a layup that increased the advantage to 56 points (81-25).  The Red Hawks had three straight baskets to lead 95-30 (4:51).  Hill made a jump shot (4:24) then Montclair State ended the contest with an 11-4 run.  Jeffers was the scoring leader in the second half with 10 points.
