NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University women’s indoor track team competed at the New York City Gotham Cup on Friday.
The Profs took sixth place (10:23.41) in the 4x800 meter relay and they were ninth (13:34.60) in the distance medley relay. The 4x800 meter relay included Vanessa Valdes (fr. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack), Lisa Leszcynski (fr. Trenton, NJ/Robbinsville), Brianna Streater (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Lisa Jones. Jessalynn Wright (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), Jewel Brown (fr. Clayton, NJ/Clayton), Melirah Searcy (so. Edison, NJ/Edison) and Jones were on the distance medley relay. The 4x400 meter relay finished 11th (4:02.60) with Searcy, Brianna Crofton (so. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.), Shailah Williams (fr. Pemberton, NJ/Pemberton) and Brown.
In the 60 meter hurdles, Jamie Thompson was eighth with a time of 9:28 while Joyce Perry had an 18th place (9.66). Crofton took ninth (1:16.52) in the 500 meters. Her time broke the school record of 1:17.61 by Searcy in 2012. Crofton was also 26th (8.11) in the 60 meters. Searcy had a 14th place (1:17.90) in the 500 meters.
Williams came in 21st (8.03) in the 60 meters. Jones finished 23rd (5:35.85) in the one mile. Wright and Brown were 26th (1:01.00) and 28th (1:01.45) respectively in the 400 meters. Streater was 28th (2:27.68) in the 800 meters.
Next week, Rowan travels to Ursinus College on Friday, January 18 for the Collegeville Classic at 3 p.m.
