GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team won both games in a tri-match on Saturday. The Profs defeated Penn State Brandywine, 3-0 in the first match. Albright College had a 3-1 victory over Penn State Brandywine in match two. Rowan beat Albright, 3-0 in the final match of the day.
Rowan has a 4-3 record. Against Penn State Brandywine (0-2), the set scores were 25-8, 25-12 and 25-16. Outside hitter/middle blocker Krissy Collins (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) registered seven kills and two blocks. Middle blocker Nikki Binetti (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) and outside hitter Katie Havlicek (sr. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) posted five kills apiece. Binetti added three blocks and Havlicek had seven digs. Setter Nicole Ciandella (jr. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) tallied 19 assists and three service aces. Defensive specialist Casey Grasso (jr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) had a career-high eight aces. Libero Lauren Ruffalo (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) collected 10 digs.
For the Lions, opposite Corey Young recorded six kills and outside hitter Emily Battista had five. Setter Miranda Biondi dished 10 assists and had seven digs. Libero Kim Russo chipped in with 11 digs.
Versus Albright (1-3), the set scores were 28-26, 25-12 and 25-12. Binetti totaled 13 kills, three blocks and two aces. Outside hitter/middle blocker Morgan Mende (fr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) accumulated 10 kills, while Collins had seven. Havlicek added eight kills and six digs. Ciandella contributed with 33 assists and six digs. Grasso had eight digs and four service aces. Ruffalo posted a team-high 12 digs.
Lions’ outside hitter/defensive specialist Christa Mantz and middle hitter Alyssa Hoogendoorn both registered seven kills. Setter Erin Wentzel tallied 14 assists, while libero Casey McFadden had 19 digs.
Rowan hosts Gwynedd-Mercy College on Tuesday, September 11 at 7 p.m.
