Women's Volleyball Tops Kean, 3-1

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team topped Kean University, 3-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Thursday night.  The set scores were 25-21, 22-25, 25-17 and 25-19.

The Profs improve to 9-5 overall, while the Cougars are 11-5.  Both teams are 3-1 in the conference.  Rowan was led by outside hitter/middle blocker Morgan Mende (fr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) with 15 kills and six blocks.  She produced a .429 hitting percentage.  Outside hitter Katie Havlicek (sr. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) totaled 10 kills and 17 digs.  Middle blocker Nikki Binetti (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) added nine kills and outside hitter/middle blocker Krissy Collins (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) had eight.

Setter Nicole Ciandella (jr. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) dished 38 assists.  Libero Lauren Ruffalo (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) collected a team-high 19 digs.  Defensive specialists Casey Grasso (jr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) and Marissa Micciche (jr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) registered 16 and 11 digs respectively.

For Kean, outside hitter Aysia Peterson (so. Scotch Plains-Fanwood, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) posted 12 kills.  Middle hitter Kaitlyn Hansen (jr. Edison, NJ/Edison Twp.) tallied nine kills and six blocks.  Outside hitter Jen Espinal (so. Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) contributed with six kills and nine digs.  Libero Katie Schuh (sr. Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) had a match-high 24 digs.  Setter Alana Aranjo (so. Newark, NJ/Science Park) accumulated 31 assists.  Outside hitter Alix Denison (so. Fort Collins, CO/Rocky Mountain) and Aranjo chipped in with 12 digs apiece.

Rowan travels to York, PA for the Spartan Invitational on Friday-Saturday, September 28-29.  On Friday, the Profs face Eastern University at 5 p.m. and Centenary College at 9 p.m.  Rowan plays host York College (PA) on Saturday at noon.
