STEVENSON, MD – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team went 1-1 at a tri-match on Saturday. The Profs lost their first match, 3-0 to host Stevenson University and defeated Cazenovia College, 3-0 in the second. Stevenson topped Cazenovia, 3-0 in the final match.
Against Stevenson (11-1), the set scores were 25-10, 25-10 and 25-15. The Mustangs were led by outside hitters Christine Isenberg (jr. Taneytown, MD/Francis Scott Key) and Avery Gabbard (sr. Arnold, MD/Broadneck) with 11 kills apiece. They also had eight and seven digs respectively. Outside hitter Imani Hudson (fr. Burke, VA/Thomas Edison) contributed with eight kills. Setter Jessica Gieselman (jr. Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) posted a match-high 37 assists and six digs. Libero Samantha Perillo (so. Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Friends) had 14 digs and two service aces.
For Rowan (6-5), middle blocker Nikki Binetti (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) tallied four kills and three blocks. Setter Nicole Ciandella (jr. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) dished 15 assists. Libero Lauren Ruffalo (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) collected eight digs and defensive specialist Marissa Micciche (jr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) had six.
The set scores versus Cazenovia (0-8) were 25-12, 25-8 and 25-13. Profs’ outside hitter Katie Havlicek (sr. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) totaled seven kills, nine digs and two aces. Outside hitter/middle blocker Krissy Collins (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) compiled seven kills and Binetti had six. Ciandella racked up 32 assists. Ruffalo chipped in with 13 digs. Outside hitter/middle blocker Morgan Mende (fr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) had five kills.
For the Wildcats, right side Megan Pettit (fr. Aurora, NY/Southern Cayuga) and outside hitters Erin Sweeney (fr. Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) and Shaylia Thomas (so. Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) all recorded two kills. Defensive specialist Megan Kresge (sr. Port Crane, NY/Chenango Forks) added six digs and one service ace.
Rowan travels to Rutgers-Newark for a conference match on Tuesday, September 18 at 7 p.m.
