CORTLAND, NY – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team competed on the second day of the Red Dragon Classic at SUNY Cortland on Saturday.  The Profs won their first match, 3-1 over Fredonia State University.  Rowan lost in the Gold Pool final, 3-0 to the University of Rochester.

The Profs have a 2-2 overall record.  On Friday, Rowan topped Lebanon Valley College, 3-0 and fell to Buffalo State College, 3-2. 

Versus Fredonia State (1-2), the set scores were 25-21, 25-21, 14-25 and 25-22.  Middle blocker Nikki Binetti (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) and outside hitter Katie Havlicek (sr. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) both registered 11 kills and produced .429 and .321 hitting percentages respectively.  Binetti added seven blocks and Havlicek tallied 12 digs.  Outside hitter Krissy Collins (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) posted nine kills.  Setter Nicole Ciandella (jr. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) totaled 33 assists and six digs.  Libero Lauren Ruffalo (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) collected 16 digs.

Rochester (3-1) won with set scores of 25-13, 25-19 and 25-18.  Binetti compiled seven kills.  She was selected to the All-Tournament Team.  Collins and Havlicek followed with five kills apiece.  Ciandella dished 20 assist and had seven digs.  Ruffalo chipped in with a team-high 14 digs.

Rowan hosts Baptist Bible College in its home opener on Wednesday, September 5 at 7 p.m.
