CORTLAND, NY – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team went 1-1 on the first day of the Reg Dragon Classic hosted by SUNY Cortland on Friday night.  The Profs defeated Lebanon Valley College, 3-0 and lost to Buffalo State College, 3-2.

It was Rowan’s first two matches of the season.  The set scores against Lebanon Valley (0-2) were 25-15, 27-15 and 25-21.  Middle blocker Nikki Binetti (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) led the way with nine kills and three blocks.  She produced a .471 hitting percentage.  Outside hitter Katie Havlicek (sr. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) posted seven kills and 19 digs.  Outside hitter Krissy Collins (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) registered six kills and three blocks.  Setter Nicole Ciandella (jr. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) tallied 28 assists and seven digs.  Defensive specialist Casey Grasso (jr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) compiled 12 digs and libero Lauren Ruffalo (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had seven.

Versus Buffalo State (2-0), Collins accumulated 13 kills and two blocks.  Havlicek totaled 10 kills and 18 digs, while Binetti added nine kills and five blocks.  Outside hitter Dakota Oeskovic (jr. Pine Beach, NJ/Toms River S.) chipped in with six kills and three blocks.  Ciandella collected 37 assists and 13 digs.  Ruffalo recorded a team-high 27 digs.  Defensive specialist Marissa Micciche (jr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) contributed with 15 digs and Grasso had 12.

The Red Dragon Classic continues on Saturday, September 1.  Rowan faces Fredonia State University at noon and the University of Rochester at 4 p.m.
