CLAREMONT, CA – Rowan University’s Jamie Thompson finished ninth in the prelims of the 100 meter hurdles at the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The three-day national championships on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at Burns Stadium ends on Saturday, May 26.
Thompson (so. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) ran a career best 14.26 and finished third in the third heat. The top finisher in the three heats and the next six best advanced to the final on Saturday at 6:15 p.m. She qualified for the NCAAs with a time of 14.55 from the prelims at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships.
On Saturday, Jena Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) will run in the final of the 3000 meter steeplechase at 4:45 p.m. She finished third in the prelims on Thursday with a time of 10:48.16. She took second place in the second heat. The top five in the two heats and the next four best moved on to the final. This is the first year that the event has had prelims in Division III. Peacock qualified for nationals with the third best time, 10:39.70, among the 22 competitors.
In the Saturday field events, Melissa Lake (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) will compete in the javelin at 6:45 p.m. Lake had the third best throw of 144’ 5” (44.03 meters) among the national entrants.
