CLAREMONT, CA – Rowan University’s Jena Peacock will compete in the final of the 3000 meter steeplechase at the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  The three-day national championships continue on Friday-Saturday, May 25-26 at Burns Stadium on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.

Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) finished third in the prelims with a time of 10:48.16.  She took second place in the second heat.  The top five in the two heats and the next four best move on to the final.  This is the first year that the event has had prelims in Division III.  The 3000 meter steeplechase championship is on Saturday at 4:45 p.m.  Peacock qualified for the NCAAs with the third best time, 10:39.70, among the 22 competitors.  Her time is the University record.     

Melirah Searcy (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) was 19th (1:04.42) in the 400 meter hurdles prelims. Searcy had produced a qualifying time of 1:02.00 at the Swarthmore College Last Chance Meet.  Vanessa Wright (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) ran in the prelims of the 1500 meters.  She came in 22nd with a time of 5:02.95. 

On Friday, Jamie Thompson (so. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) will compete in the prelims of the 100 meter hurdles at 8:05 p.m.  In the field events, Melissa Lake (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) qualified for the javelin on Saturday at 6:45 p.m.
