GALLOWAY, NJ – The Rowan University softball team split a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader at Richard Stockton College on Tuesday.  The Ospreys rallied for four runs in the seventh to win 4-3 in the first game.  The Profs recorded a 10-3 victory in the second contest.

Rowan has a 20-3 record with a 2-2 conference mark.  Richard Stockton is 14-4 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC. 

In the opener, Richard Stockton trailed 3-0 going into the bottom of the seventh. Pinch hitters Nichole Terreri (jr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) and Stephanie Darrow (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had back-to-back walks.  Center fielder Jessica Goncalves (jr. Union, NJ/Union) followed with a bunt single to load the bases.  Shortstop Joey Afflitto (sr. Brick, NJ/Brick) walked and Terreri scored.  Second baseman Danielle Kohen’s (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) sacrifice fly brought home Darrow.  Right fielder Katelyn Derewecki (sr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) was intentionally walked.  Designated player Heather Corica (jr. Iselin, NJ/John F. Kennedy) reached base on a fielder’s choice, Goncalves crossed the plate on an error and Afflitto scored the winning run.

Pitcher Brittany Ksiezopolski (fr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) earned the win in relief.  She (4-0) threw one inning and did not give up a hit.  Right-hander Jamie Minix (sr. Clarksboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) took the loss.  In six innings, she (9-2) allowed four runs, two earned on seven hits.

Goncalves ended the game with two hits in three at bats and one run scored.  Afflitto was one for three with a double, one RBI and one run scored.  Kohen produced one hit in three trips to the plate and one RBI. 

For Rowan, left fielder Jennifer Arcella (so. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) went two for four with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored.  Designated player Katie Trotter (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) contributed with a double and scored one run.  Shortstop Ashley Minch (sr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) collected one hit and one RBI.  Second baseman Nicole Escudero (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had one RBI.  Third baseman Julie Leskanic (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) added one hit and one run scored. 

The Profs scored one run in the first, third and sixth innings.  Trotter ripped a double down the left field line in the first inning.  She went to third on a wild pitch and came home on Minch’s single.  In the third, Arcella recorded a RBI double, scoring Leskanic.  Arcella had a lead off double to center field in the sixth inning.  She went to third on center fielder Shannon Costello’s (fr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) sacrifice bunt.  Escudero had a sacrifice fly that brought Arcella home. 

Right-hander LeAnne Miller (jr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) pitched a complete game for the win in the nightcap.  Miller (10-1) allowed three hits and three unearned runs.  She had five strikeouts.  Jamie Gasko (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) was the losing pitcher.  She went 2.2 innings and gave up six runs, four were earned.   

Arcella collected two hits (three at bats), two RBIs and one run scored.  First baseman Stephanie Labas (jr. Millville, NJ/Millville) went two for four at the plate with one run scored.  Right fielder Lauren Davis (sr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) registered two hits (four at bats), one RBI and one run scored.  Escudero contributed with a double and scored one run.  Trotter and Minch produced one hit and two runs scored apiece.  Minch also tallied two RBIs.  Leskanic totaled one hit (four at bats), one RBI and one run scored.  Costello chipped in with one hit and one RBI.  Catcher Nicolina Veneziano (sr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) scored one run.

The Ospreys’ third baseman Grace Long (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) went two for three with a triple and one RBI.  Goncalves contributed with one hit in three at bats.  Pinch runners Rachel Forte (so. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) and Marisa Ortiz (fr. Manchester, NJ/Manchester Twp.) and Afflitto all scored one run. 

Rowan went up 6-0 in the third inning.  Davis knocked in Escudero with a single.  Minch reached base on a fielder’s choice, scoring Veneziano.  With the bases loaded, Arcella was hit by a pitch and Trotter went home.  Minch scored on a wild pitch while Arcella and Leskanic each crossed the plate on a passed ball. 

The Profs led 10-0 after four runs in the top of the sixth.  Minch’s single to center field plated Davis.  Trotter scored on a single by Arcella.  Leskanic drove  in Labas with a single to center field.  Costello’s single brought home Minch.  Richard Stockton’s three runs came in the bottom half.  Long produced a RBI single.  Forte and Ortiz both scored on an error.
