Women's Distance Medley Relay Takes First At The ECAC Championships

NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University women’s indoor track team competed at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships on Friday.  The championships continue on Saturday at the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory.
 
The distance medley relay ran a winning and school record time of 11:49.15.  The relay consisted of Jena Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy), Tashay Wilson (fr. Hillside, NJ/Hillside), Melirah Searcy (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) and Vanessa Wright (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.).  The previous mark was 12:06.17 from earlier this season at the New Balance Invitational.  Peacock led off and ran the 1200 meters in 3:36.34 followed by Wilson with 58.68 in the 400 meters.  Searcy’s time for the 800 meters was 2:18.35 while Wright had a time of 4:55.35 for the mile.  The converted time because of the banked track is 11:51.65, which is currently fourth in the NCAA Division III.   
 
Jenn Rawls (jr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) came in eighth (18:00.63) in the 5000 meters.  Shantel Beckford (fr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) finished 10th in the prelims of the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.94.  The top eight advanced to Saturday’s final and the last qualifier ran 7.89.
