WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Rowan University women’s track and field team competed at the Wake Forest Open on Saturday. The two-day meet included teams from Division I, III and III.
Melissa Lake (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) took second place in the javelin with a throw of 138’ 8” (42.27 meters). Sarah Dores (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Holy Cross) came in ninth with 124’ 10” (38.04 meters). Vanessa Wright (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) ran 4:36.44 in the 1500 meters for fourth place.
The distance medley relay team finished fourth (12:43.09) with Samantha Stapleton (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Alexus Streater (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Christina Huynh (jr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) and Jena Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy). The 4x400 meter relay came in 17th with a time of 4:00.55. The 4x400 included Alexus Streater, Melirah Searcy (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison), Brianna Streater (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Tashay Wilson (fr. Hillside, NJ/Hillside).
Samantha Kamper (so. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) tied for 10th in the high jump B with a height of 5’ 0.25” (1.53 meters). Searcy was 18th (1:05.52) in the 400 meter hurdles. In the discus, Jess Lomonaco (so. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) finished 33rd (109’ 5”, 33.35 meters) and Emily Spieker (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) was 36th (108’, 32.93 meters).
Next week, Rowan travels to Annapolis, MD on Saturday, March 24 for the Navy Invitational that starts at 10 a.m .
