GRINNELL, IA – Rowan University’s Jena Peacock finished ninth in the 5000 meters at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships on Saturday. The national championships were held at Grinnell College’s Charles Benson Bear ’39 Recreation and Athletic Center Field House.
Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) ran 17:35.13. She qualified for the NCAA Championships with a time of 17:11.97 at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational (Feb. 3). Her converted time was 17:15.27 because of the banked track at The Armory. It was the only time she competed in the 5000 meters during the season. Last year, Peacock took 12
th place (18:01.89) in the 5000 meters at the national indoor championships.
On Friday, Peacock ran the first leg of the distance medley relay that came in seventh for All-America honors. The relay had a time of 11:55.14 and also included Tashay Wilson (fr. Hillside, NJ/Hillside), Melirah Searcy (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) and Vanessa Wright (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.).
The 5000 meters was won by Wartburg College’s Laura Sigmund with a field house record of 17:01.82. Wartburg captured the team title with 99 points followed by Wis.-Oshkosh with 48. Washington University took third (30) while Methodist College was fourth (26). Illinois College and Ramapo College were tied for fifth place (20). Rowan was tied for 47
th out of 63 teams. The Profs only competed in two events.
