Rowan Wins Two More Games To Remain Undefeated

KISSIMMEE, FL – The Rowan University softball team defeated Trine University, 8-2 and Daniel Webster College, 17-0 in five innings at the Rebel Spring Games on Saturday.  The Profs, ranked 17th, are undefeated with a 6-0 record.

Against Trine, right-hander Jamie Minix (sr. Clarksboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) was the winning pitcher.  Minix (3-0) scattered seven hits and had three strikeouts.  Andi Gasco took the loss on the mound.  In six innings, Gasco (4-5) allowed eight runs, three earned and struck out six batters.

Second baseman Nicole Escudero (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) led the Profs with three hits (three at bats), four RBIs and two runs scored.  She recorded a double and a triple.  Center fielder Nicolina Veneziano (sr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) was two for three with two RBIs, a double and one run scored.  Right fielder Lauren Davis (sr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) contributed with two hits in four trips to the plate, one RBI and one run scored.  Third baseman Julie Leskanic (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) added one hit and one RBI. 
 
For Trine, catcher Sarah Belote was two for three with a double and one RBI.  Shortstop Haleigh Daniels registered one hit (three at bats) and one RBI.  Right fielder Leah Hall had two hits in three at bats.  Gasco produced one hit (three at bats) and scored one run.
 
Rowan went ahead 5-1 after scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning.  Escudero knocked in three runs with a triple.  She came home on Davis’ single.  The Thunders’ second run came in the fourth on a RBI double by Belote.  The Profs tacked on three more runs, two in the fifth inning and one in the sixth.  Veneziano drove in Escudero and Davis with a double.  In the sixth, Escudero walked with the bases loaded for the RBI.

In the first inning, Veneziano led off with a walk and she later crossed the plate on Leskanic’s single.  Trine tied the score in the second inning.  Pinch runner Jillian Craig came home on a ground out by Daniels.   
 
The pitching duties against Daniel Webster College were shared by right-handers LeAnne Miller (jr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland), Katie Trotter (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Samantha Liedtka (jr. Hamilton Square, NJ/Steinert).  The trio did not give up a hit.  Liedtka pitched the final two innings for the victory.  She (1-0) had three strikeouts. 

First baseman Stephanie Labas (jr. Millville, NJ/Millville) produced three hits (three at bats), four RBIs, three runs scored, a double and a home run.  Veneziano collected three hits in four at bats, three RBIs, three runs scored, a double and a triple.  Trotter totaled three hits (three at bats), two RBIs and one run scored.  Shortstop Kristi Twardziak (so. Somerdale NJ/Triton Reg.) compiled three hits (four at bats), two RBIs, two runs scored and two doubles.  Leskanic added two hits in four at bats, a double, one RBI and one run scored.  Left fielder Jennifer Arcella (so. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) and Davis each tallied two RBIs.  Arcella scored twice and Davis crossed the plate once.   

At the Rebel Spring Games, Rowan plays Millikin University (IL) and Transylvania University (KY) on Sunday, March 11 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
