TCNJ Wins 70-57 Over Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ – The College of New Jersey women’s basketball team won 70-57 over host Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.

The Lions are 15-8 overall and 7-4 in the conference.  The Profs have an 8-14 record with a 2-9 NJAC mark.  TCNJ had four players that scored in double figures.  Guard Jessica Imhof (sr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Guard Tiffany DeTulio (so. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) contributed with 13 points.  Forwards Hannah Tait (sr. Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) and Kelsey Kutch (sr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) added 11 and 10 points respectively.  Forward/center Candace Vigo (jr. New Brunswick, NJ/New Brunswick Health Science Technology) and Kutch each grabbed seven boards. 

For Rowan, forward Lauren Gregg (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) totaled 17 points and 11 rebounds.  Guard Kaitlin Schullstrom (fr. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) came off the bench and scored 11 points with five rebounds.  Guard Chanelle Banta (sr. Bergenfield, NJBergenfield) tallied nine points and forward Lauren Creel (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) followed with eight.  Guard Alissa Lamey (sr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) collected seven rebounds and dished five assists.

TCNJ started the second period with a two-point lead (27-25).  Imhof nailed a three at 19:54 that made the score 30-25.  The Profs answered with seven straight points by Gregg to go up by two (32-30) at 15:53.  Guard Kylie O’Donnell (fr. Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) hit a three at 15:40 to take back the lead 33-32.  Guard Kelly Coughlin’s (fr. Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) three-pointer kept the Lions ahead by two (36-34) at 14:47.  Banta tied the score at 36 with a basket with 14:26 remaining.  TCNJ answered with a 12-1 run for an 11-point advantage (48-37) at 7:15.  Kutch scored four points while DeTulio and Imhof each contributed three and Vigo had two.  Imhof converted two free throws (5:12) and Tait drained a three (4:29) to lead by 16 (55-39).   

Schullstrom had two foul shots at 2:04 and the Profs trailed by 10 (59-49).  DeTulio followed with two free throws (1:13) to go up 61-49.  With 49 seconds left, Imhof kept the lead at 12 (64-52) after sinking two foul shots.  Gregg made three free throws (0:39) and Banta had a layup (0:29) and the Profs trailed by seven (64-57).  The Lions ended the game with six foul shots in six attempts.  Kutch, Tait and Imhof made two apiece.  Imhof scored 14 points in the second half.  Gregg totaled 12 and Schullstrom had 10.

The game was tied six times in the first half.  DeTulio hit a three at 5:56 that tied the score at 18.  Gregg followed with a three-pointer (5:40) for a three-point advantage (21-18).  TCNJ took the lead 23-21 after a layup from Kutch (4:57) and a three by DeTulio (4:29).  Creel made two foul shots with 3:49 left for the sixth tie (23-23).  Coughlin (3:01) and Imhof (2:14) answered with back-to-back jumpers to lead by four (27-23).  Creel cut the deficit to two (27-25) at the intermission with a basket at the 50 second mark. 

Next week, Rowan travels to Valley Forge Christian College on Tuesday, February 7 for a 6 p.m. nonconference game.
