PRINCETON, NJ – The Rowan University women’s indoor track team traveled to the Princeton University Invitational on Saturday.
Jena Peacock (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) won the one mile run with a time of 5:03.74. Her time was a season best and a qualifier (5:16.50) for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. Jenn Rawls (jr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) was the winner in the 3000 meters. She finished in 10:27.88 and qualified for ECACs (10:45.00). It was also her top time this year. Melirah Searcy (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) ran 1:18.53 in the 500 meter run for second place and broke the school record that she held (1:20.55). Her time was better than the ECAC requirement of 1:22.00.
Ashlee Hitchner (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Delsea Reg.) finished fourth (2:20.77) in the 800 meters. She had a season best time and qualified for the ECAC Championships (2:22.50). Brianna Streater (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) took fifth place (1:20.60) in the 500 meters while her sister Alexus (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) came in eighth (1:22.37) and Kayla Leahey (so. Keansburg, NJ/Warwick Valley) was 10th (1:23.60). The Profs’ 4x400 meter relay ran 4:05.64 for seventh place. The time was the best this season and an ECAC qualifier (4:09.00). The relay included Brianna Streater, Hitchner, Alexus Streater and Searcy.
Magan Kustera (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) came in eighth in the high jump with a height of 5’ 1” (1.55 meters) while Sam Kamper (so. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) was 13th (4’ 9”, 1.45 meters). Brenda Mendez (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Delsea Reg.) took eighth place (11:21.52) in the 3000 meters. Emily Spieker (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Jess Lomanaco (so. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) finished 12th and 13th in the weight throw with 40’ 6” (12.34 meters) and 40’ 3.5” (12.28 meters) respectively.
Shantel Beckford (fr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) tied for 13th (8.13) in the 60 meter dash and Tashay Wilson (fr. Hillside, NJ/Hillside) came in 26th (8.48). Samantha Stapleton (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) had a 15th place (2:29.33) in the 800 meters and Christina Huynh (jr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) followed 16th (2:29.51). Jamie Thompson (so. Monmouth Jct., NJ/ South Brunswick) tied for 17th (9.75) in the 60 meter hurdles.
Next week, Rowan travels to the New Balance Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York City on Friday, February 24 for the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships at 11 a.m.
