GLASSBORO, NJ – The William Paterson University women’s basketball team defeated Rowan University, 85-62 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday evening.
The Pioneers are 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference. The Profs have a 3-5 record with a 0-4 NJAC mark. William Paterson was led by guard Floriana Borova (jr. Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill) with a game-high 30 points, six assists, five rebounds and five steals. Forward Dana Jeter (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) registered 16 points, eight boards and five steals. Forward Ashley Marfo (so. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield) posted 13 points and nine rebounds. Guard Lindsey Callander (sr. Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) contributed with nine points.
For Rowan, guard Bria Hill (so. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) compiled 17 points. She had career-highs with 10 rebounds and five steals. Guard Eyandra Molina (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Washington Irving (NY)) followed with 16 points. Center Stephanie Krauss (sr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) recorded 10 points. Guard Jade Bonder (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) collected nine points and six rebounds off the bench.
The Profs started the game with a 5-0 run over the first 2:19. Hill and Molina each scored two points and guard Alex Govan (jr. Bridgeton, NJ/Camden City Tech. Schools) had one. The Pioneers answered with a 7-2 surge to tie the game (7-7) at 15:33. Jeter nailed a three-pointer, while Borova and Callander added one basket apiece. At 11:04, Hill’s layup tied the game at 18. William Paterson had the next seven points to pull ahead, 25-18 at 9:23. Rowan scored six straight points to cut the deficit to one (25-24) with 7:42 on the clock. Bonder had four of the six points.
Rowan trailed by one (27-26) at 6:43 after a layup by forward Megan Russ (jr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.). The Pioneers broke the game open with a 14-0 spurt to make the score, 40-26 at the four minute mark. Borova tallied five of the 14 points. Krauss’ jumper at 2:56 brought the Profs within eight (40-32). Borova sunk a three (1:40) and Marfo had a layup (1:15) to push the advantage to 13 (45-32). Krauss converted two free throws (1:00) and Borova had a basket (:37) to make the score, 47-34 at the intermission. Borova totaled 19 points in the first half and Jeter had 11. Krauss collected 10 points for Rowan.
Molina’s two foul shots at 16:58 to come within 12 (54-42). The Pioneers had a 7-0 run to go up by 19 (61-42) at 14:12. Borova registered five points and guard Sara Luberto (fr. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park had two. Guard Brittany Harden (fr. Millville, NJ/Sacred Heart) had two free throws at 8:20 to give William Paterson a 27 point advantage (71-44). It was the Pioneers’ largest lead of the game. Hill’s jumper at 2:23 cut the deficit to 19 (79-60). William Paters ended the game with a 6-2 spurt.
