Women's Basketball Defeats Kean, 62-42

UNION, NJ  – The Rowan University women’s basketball defeated Kean University, 62-42 on Wednesday night. 

The Profs improve to 3-4 overall while the Cougars drop to 1-5 on the season.  Guard Bria Hill (so. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) led the way with a career-high 25 points.  She also grabbed seven rebounds.  Guard Eyandra Molina (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Washington Irving (NY)) contributed with 16 points, five boards, four assists and three steals.  Forward Erin Farrell (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) added nine points and seven rebounds.  Center Stephanie Krauss (sr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) chipped in with seven points.

For Kean, guard AnnaRose Pierre (so. East Orange, NJ/Newark Tech) totaled 13 points and nine rebounds.  Forward Kyanne Sager (sr. Westminster, VT/Kearsarge Reg.) scored 10 points and guard/forward Meghan Williams (so. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) followed with nine.

The Profs trailed 25-23 after the first half.  Hill’s basket at 19:14 tied the score at 25.  Guard Shay Collins (so. Pine Hill, NJ/Atlantic City) put the Cougars back up by two (27-25) with 17:29 remaining.  Rowan responded with a 12-2 run to lead 37-29 at 11:41.  Hill produced seven points and Molina had five.  Williams hit a three-pointer at 10:17 to pull within five (37-32).  A 5-0 surge put Rowan ahead by 10 points (42-32) at 8:43.  Molina (7:28) and Hill (7:11) each made two free throws for a 12 point advantage (46-34). 

With 4:15 left, Sager’s layup made the score 53-40.  The Profs scored nine unanswered points to lead by 22 (62-40) with 43 seconds on the clock.  Hill collected four points while Krauss and Molina each had basket and Farrell had a foul shot.  Center Jordan Mangiafico-Chambers (fr. Frederick, MD/Frederick) scored with a layup at the 28 second mark to end the game.      

The score was tied six times in the first period.  The last one came at 3:37 when Farrell’s basket knotted the score at 21.  Pierre had a layup (3:18) and forward Megan Russ (jr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.) hit a free throw (2:48), which made the score 23-22.  Sager had a basket at 1:44 to lead by three (25-22).  Farrell hit the first of two foul shots at the 11 second mark and the Profs were down by two (25-23) at the break. 

Next, Rowan plays at home against William Paterson University on Saturday, December 8 at 5 p.m.
