Neumann Women's Basketball Comes From Behind For 54-49 Win Over Rowan

ASTON, PA  – The Neumann University women’s basketball team came from behind to win   54-49 over visiting Rowan University on Thursday night.

The Knights improve to 3-6 overall while the Profs are 3-8 on the season.  Forward JoHanna Metzger (fr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) led Neumann with 13 points and eight rebounds.  Guard Jessica Schlesman (so. Barto, PA/Boyertown) contributed with 12 points.  Guards/forwards Bethany Humenik (sr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and Colleen Hinde (jr. Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickon) each chipped in with eight points.  Forward Laura Scott (jr. Ridley Park, PA/Sun Valley) registered a game-high 10 rebounds and Humenik added six. 

For Rowan, guard Eyandra Molina (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Washington Irving (NY)) scored 18 points, which tied her career high.  Guard Bria Hill (so. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) totaled 12 points and five rebounds.  Forward Erin Farrell (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Molina collected seven boards apiece.  Forward Dena Moses (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) produced a career mark of nine rebounds. 

In the second half, the Profs were ahead 33-27 at 15:10.  Molina’s layup made the score 35-30 with 12:53 remaining.  The Knights had a 6-0 spurt to go up by one (36-35) and Metzger had the go ahead basket at 11:07.  Molina (10:21) and Hill (9:47) produced back-to-back baskets to lead by three (39-36).  Scott sank two foul shots (8:41) and Neumann went ahead 40-39.  Metzger’s free throw (5:33) was good for a four point advantage (45-41).  Rowan guard Jade Bonder (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) tied the score at 45 (4:32) with a jump shot and Molina followed with a layup (4:06).  Schlesman hit two foul shots at 3:14 and the Knights led by three (50-47).  Molina’s jumper pulled the Profs within one (50-49) with 2:50 on the clock.  Neumann ended the game with four of six free throws for a five point victory.  Schlesman contributed with three and Metzger had one.  Metzger totaled 12 points in the final period and Schlesman followed with 10.

Neumann was ahead 9-5 at 13:53 in the first half.  Rowan took the lead (13-9) with four straight baskets.  Hill (13:43) and Farrell (11:36) each had a jumper.  Bonder (11:09) and Farrell (9:37) followed with baskets.  The Profs were up by five points (17-12) after a jumper by Molina at 7:07.  Her jumper at 4:59 increased the advantage to six (19-13).  Scott hit one foul shot (2:44) and the Knights pulled within three points (21-18).  Hill had a layup (2:36).  Neumann guard Reilly Larkin (fr. Sea Isle City, NJ/Ocean City) nailed a three (1:52) to trail 23-21 at the break.  

After the holidays, Rowan hosts Wesley College on Wednesday, January 2 at 7 p.m.
