COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Rowan University women’s indoor track team opened the 2012-13 season with a fifth place finish at the Bow-Tie Classic.  The meet was held at Ursinus College.

The Profs compiled 53.50 points among the 16 teams.  Ursinus was the winner with 124.50 points followed by Coppin State University, second (78.50 points).  Misericordia University and Elizabethtown College were third (66.50 points) and fourth (58 points) respectively.

Rowan won the 4x200 (1:47.25) and 4x800 (10:04.46) meter relays.  The 4x200 meter relay consisted of Jewel Brown (fr. Clayton, NJ/Clayton), Melirah Searcy (so. Edison, NJ/Edison), Jessica Carlson (jr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) and Jamie Thompson (jr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick).  Brown, Brianna Crofton, Alexus Streater (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Searcy were on the 4x800 meter relay.  The 4x400 meter relay of Jessalynn Wright (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), Vanessa Valdes (fr. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack), Carlson and Kayla Leahey (jr. Keansburg, NJ/Warwick Valley) came in second with a time of 4:10.07.

Thompson captured second (9.24) in the 60 meter hurdles, while Carlson was sixth (9.54).  In the 800 meters, Wright and Samantha Stapleton (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) were third (2:26.82) and sixth (2:28.67) respectively.  Shantel Beckford (so. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) tied for fifth (27.54) in the 200 meters and came in seventh (8.18) in the 60 meter dash.

Streater finished ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.89.  Tashay Wilson (fr. Hillside, NJ/Hillside) was eighth (27.75) in the 200 meters.  Shailah Williams had a ninth place (8.21) in the 60 meter dash.

Rowan travels to the New York City Gotham Cup on Friday, January 11 at 12:30 p.m.  The meet is at the Armory in New York, NY.
