Women's Basketball Falls At Delaware Valley College, 63-51

DOYLESTOWN, PA  – The Rowan University women’s basketball team lost at Delaware Valley College, 63-51 on Monday night.

The Aggies are 1-2 overall while the Profs have a 2-2 record.  Guard Eireann Anastasi (fr. Philadelphia, PA/Saint Hubert) led the way with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists.  Forward Brenna Coll (so. Philadelphia, PA/Springside) contributed with 14 points and six boards.  Forward/center Emily Soper (sr. Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) chipped in with 11 points and guard Kelsey Kilpatrick (fr. Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) added 10.  Soper also grabbed 10 rebounds. 

For Rowan, center Kate Matthews (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) scored 17 points and totaled a career-high 19 rebounds.  Guard Bria Hill (so. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) produced 15 points and nine boards.  Guard Eyandra Molina (sr. Pleasantville NJ/Washington Irving (NY)) had 11 points, eight rebounds and six assists.     

In the first half, Matthews’ layup (18:06) tied the score at five.  Delaware Valley had a seven point lead (14-7) at 15:12 after a layup by guard Agatha Drozd (so. Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain E.).  Hill followed with a basket (14:17) then the Aggies had a 9-0 run for a 14 point advantage (23-9) with 8:29 remaining.  Anastasi and Coll scored five and four points respectively. 

The Profs trailed by 12  (25-13) at 4:28 after Hill hit a jumper.  Delaware Valley had a 9-0 spurt which made the score 34-13 with1:50 on the clock.  Anastasi scored four of the nine points.  At the intermission, the Aggies were ahead 36-17.  Anastasi scored 14 points while Coll collected 12 in the first period.

Kilpatrick’s layup in the second half (17:10) made the score 43-21.  At 13:39, Anastasi had a jumper for a 22 point lead (48-26).  Center/forward Shannon Barlow’s (so. Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) layup gave the Aggies a 24 point advantage (54-30) at 11:17.  Rowan answered with a 12-2 run to pull within 14 (56-42) with 5:55 left.  Matthews scored six points in the run.  Soper hit a jumper at 3:27 to lead 63-44.  The Profs ended the game with seven straight points.  Hill had four points and Molina followed with three.

Rowan plays at home against conference opponent Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, November 28 at 6 p.m.
