Sewnig Runs At NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships

TERRE HAUTE, IN – Rowan University’s Jon Sewnig ran at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday.  The championship race was held at the LaVern Gibson Course.

Sewnig (so. Yardville, NJ/Notre Dame) came in 201st overall with a time of 26:22.0.  There were 280 runners that competed at the national championships.  Tim Nelson from Wis.-Stout was the individual winner with a time of 24:26.8.  North Central College captured the team title with 167 points. 

Sewnig qualified for the NCAA Championships with a 13th place at the Atlantic Regional.  He finished in 25:54.4 over the 8K course and received All-Region honors.  At the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships, Sewnig was second with a time of 25:22.85, which was a season best.  He was named to the NJAC All-Conference first team.  He was the conference’s Runner of the Week two times.   

Sewnig won the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Championships in 26:57.7.  At the Fordham Fiasco, he finished 18th with a time of 28:33.15 over the five mile course.  Sewnig had a 23rd place (27:16) at the Paul Short Open in the white race.  He ran 25:53 at the Princeton University Invitational. 

Rowan finished 10th out of 44 teams at the NCAA Atlantic Regional.  This season, the Profs won the CTC Championships and took second at the NJAC Championships.
