GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team won two matches at a tri-match on Saturday. The Profs defeated Hunter College, 3-1 and Wesley College, 3-0. In the other match, Hunter had a 3-1 victory over Wesley.
The Profs improve to 15-6 overall. The Hawks are 13-6, while the Wolverines have a 4-19 record.
Against Hunter, the set scores were 26-24, 19-25, 25-11 and 25-16. Outside hitter Katie Havlicek (sr. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) totaled 15 kills and 11 digs. Outside hitter/middle blocker Morgan Mende (fr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) followed with 12 kills. Setter Nicole Ciandella (jr. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) compiled 43 assists and 10 digs. Libero Lauren Ruffalo (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) tallied 18 digs and defensive specialist Marissa Micciche (jr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon ) had 11. Defensive specialist Casey Grasso (jr. Wilmington, DE/Alex I. duPont) added nine digs.
For the Hawks, opposite Taylor Kordich (so. West Islip, NY/West Islip) collected 10 kills. Outside hitters Lucia Stosic (so. Astoria, NY/Long Island City) and Brianna O’Hagan (fr. Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) contributed with nine and eight kills respectively. O’Hagan also had 15 digs. Libero Kim Hirtin (sr. Lindenhurst, NY/St. John the Baptist Diocesan) posted seven kills and 21 digs. Setter Mia De Carlo (sr. Westbury, NY/Bayside) dished 34 assists. Outside hitter Karolina Krauze (sr. Middle Village, NY/Bayside) chipped in with 24 digs.
Versus Wesley, the set scores were 25-12, 25-13 and 25-23. Mende led the way with 11 kills and Havlicek had seven. Ciandella accumulated 31 assists. Ruffalo, Grasso and Ciandella added seven digs apiece.
For the Wolverines, outside hitter Sharis Allen (sr. Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney) posted five kills. Middle hitter Jacquelle Boone (jr. New Plymouth, ID/Gem State Academy) and middle blocker Tatum Jones (fr. Georgetown, DE/Sussex Tech) both recorded four kills. Setter Cristina Marruffo (jr. Tulsa, OK/Booker T. Washington) collected 16 assists. Libero Meghan Marshall (fr. Wilmington, DE/Padua Academy) had a team-high seven digs.
Rowan hosts Delaware Valley College in a nonconference match on Monday, October 8 at 7 p.m.
