GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team beat New Jersey City University, 3-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Thursday night. The set scores were 25-7, 25-15 and 25-15.
The Profs improve to 21-8 overall and 7-1 in the conference. Rowan is the second seed in the NJAC Championship Tournament and has a bye in the first round. The Profs will host a second round match on Thursday, November 1. The Gothic Knights finish the season with a 7-20 record and a 0-8 conference mark.
Rowan was led by outside hitter Katie Havlicek (sr. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) with 11 kills, 10 digs and four service aces. Outside hitter/middle blocker Danielle Havlicek (fr. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) produced 10 kills, six digs and a .714 hitting percentage. Outside hitter/middle blocker Morgan Mende (fr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) added eight kills. Middle blocker Nikki Binetti (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) registered five service aces. Setter Nicole Ciandella (jr. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) accumulated 30 assists and seven digs. Libero Lauren Ruffalo (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) tallied 12 digs.
For New Jersey City, middle blocker Jade Medley (so. Queens, NY/Hudson Catholic) posted eight kills. Setter Kiara Martinez (sr. Newark, NJ/East Side) collected 16 assists and six digs. Libero Cindy Garcia (so. West New York, NJ/Memorial) and outside hitter Marissa Scarpa (so. Kearny, NJ/Kearny) contributed with 12 and six digs respectively.
Rowan hosts the Polytechnic Institute of New York University in its regular season finale on Saturday, October 27 at 5 p.m.
