Men's Soccer Defeats New Jersey City University, 3-1

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team defeated New Jersey City University, 3-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday.

The Profs are 7-7-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the conference.  The Gothic Knights have an 11-7 record with a 2-5 NJAC mark.  Rowan was ahead 1-0 after the first half.  Midfielder Parker Oris (so. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) scored at 35:48.  He stole the ball from a defender and shot from the top of the box into the upper left side of the NJCU net. 

In the final period, forward Christian Fountain (so. Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) produced the second goal at 56:45.  His shot went inside the right post.  Forward Julian Berrios (sr. Lakewood, NJ/Calvary Academy) scored with a header at 64:48.  He knocked in a cross from midfielder Connor Moffat (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert).  At 75:41, midfielder Manny Martis (so. Union, NJ/Union) spoiled the shutout.  He scored with a shot from 16 yards away that went inside the left post. 

Rowan ended the game with 29 shots while NJCU took 20.  Goalkeeper Michael Fanz-Huster (sr. Waterford, NJ/Hammonton) made two saves in 75:41 for the Profs.  Goalie Ryan Gill (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) played the remainder of the game and made one save.  For the Gothic Knights, goalkeeper Kevin Fuentes (fr. West New York, NJ/Memorial) stopped eight shots.

Next, Rowan hosts conference opponent Kean University on Friday, October 19 at 3:30 p.m.
