GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team opened the season with two wins in a tri-match on Saturday. The Profs won the first match, 3-1 over Albright College. Hunter College blanked Albright, 3-0 in match two. Rowan topped Hunter, 3-1 in the final match of the day.
Rowan posted set scores of 19-25, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-12 against Albright. Middle blocker Nikki Binetti (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) led the way with 11 kills. She produced a .458 hitting percentage. Outside hitters/middle blockers Krissy Collins (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Dakota Oeskovic (so. Pine Beach, NJ/Toms River S.) added eight and seven kills respectively. Setter Kelsey Donovan (so. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) totaled 15 assists and 11 digs. Setter Brooke Hassan (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) contributed with 13 assists and nine digs. Defensive specialist/outside hitter Sarah Betancourt (sr. Harrington Park, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) posted 18 digs, while libero Lauren Ruffalo (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had 16.
For Albright (0-2), outside hitter/defensive specialist Christa Mantz (so. Coaldale, PA/Panther Valley) registered eight kills and 20 digs. Middle hitter Laura van Bendegem (sr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) chipped in with seven kills. Setter Morgan Heath (so. West Chester, PA/Bayard Rustin) compiled 24 assists and 11 digs. Libero Casey McFadden (jr. Baltimore, MD/Parkville) had 19 digs and defensive specialist Alexa Jones (jr. Friedensburg, PA/Blue Mountain) followed with 17.
The set scores in Rowan’s victory over Hunter were 25-18, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-23. Binetti recorded a team-high 13 kills. Collins collected seven kills. Ruffalo had 23 digs, while Betancourt added 11. Donovan racked up 13 assists and 11 digs. Hasson contributed with 15 assists and nine digs.
For the Hawks (1-3), outside hitter/middle blocker Paulina Jobczyk (fr. Middle Village, NY/Francis Lewis) produced 12 kills and 21 digs. Middle blocker/outside hitter Mallory Grubler (sr. Bayside, NY/Benjamin Cardozo) posted eight kills, 10 digs, four service aces and two blocks. Setter Chelsea Roehm-Boutis (sr. Pilot Mountain, NC/Salem Academy) dished 18 assists. Libero Alisa Jaganjac (jr. Astoria, NY/W.C. Bryant) led the team with 28 digs. Outside hitter Kimberly Hirten (jr. Lindenhurst, NY/St. John the Baptist) and right side/outside hitter Karolina Krauze (jr. Middle Village, NY/Bayside) had 16 and 12 digs repectively.
Rowan travels to Valley Forge Christian College for a nonconference match on Tuesday, September 6 at 7 p.m.
