Rowan Defeats NJAC Opponent Richard Stockton, 2-1

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team defeated conference opponent Richard Stockton College, 2-1 on Thursday night.  The game had been rescheduled from Wednesday. 

The Profs improve to 4-3 on the season and 3-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  The Ospreys are 5-4-2 overall with a 1-3 conference mark.  This week, Richard Stockton was ranked 10th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America South Atlantic Region Rankings. 

All of the scoring came in the first half.  Midfielder Evynn Wright (sr. Marlton, NJ/Eastern Reg.) lifted a shot over goalkeeper Sara Hinkle (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Paul VI) at 1:09 for the Profs’ first goal.  Wright had an assist from midfielder Veronica Rhea (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI).  Midfielder Christie Fink (sr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) made the score 2-0 with an unassisted goal.  Fink took a shot that was blocked by an Osprey player then she knocked the rebound into the left side of the net.  At 31:25, forward Kiera Hines (jr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) pulled Richard Stockton within one.  Midfielder Briana Fischer (so. Brick, NJ/Brick) had a pass to Hines for the assist.

Rowan totaled 21 shots, 12 in the second half, while Richard Stockton registered 12.  For the Profs, goalkeeper Lyndsie Bernardini (jr. Elmer, NJ/A.P. Schalick) made nine saves.  Hinkle ended the game with eight stops.

Rowan is home again on Saturday, October 1 against William Paterson University at 5 p.m.
