Rowan Wins Two NJAC Games Over William Paterson, 4-0 and 7-1

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team won two New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) games, 4-0 and 7-1 over William Paterson University on Saturday. The Profs have a 13-game win streak.
Rowan is 14-5 overall while William Paterson has a 9-5 record. It was the conference opener for both teams.

In the first game, right-hander Amanda Singer (jr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/East Brunswick) tossed a complete game for the win. She (9-2) scattered five hits and struck out nine hitters. It was her fifth complete game and fourth shutout of the season. Righty Michele Graham (jr. Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) took the loss. In two innings, she (5-3) gave up four earned runs on six hits.

Rowan center fielder Nicolina Veneziano (jr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) went two for four with one RBI. Left fielder Casey Roselle (sr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) hit a solo home run. First baseman Stephanie Labas (so. Millville, NJ/Millville) registered one hit (three at bats), one RBI and one run scored. Second baseman Jenny Arcella (fr. Hillsdale, NJ/Pascack Valley) tallied one RBI, while shortstop Ashley Minch (jr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) and third baseman Julie Leskanic (jr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) both scored once.

For the Pioneers, shortstop Katelyn Miele (fr. Flanders, NJ/Pope John XXIII) was two for three. Designated player Jessica Warner (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Triton Reg.), third baseman Jessica Maciolek (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and center fielder Jillian Mulderig (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) all collected one hit.

With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Roselle hit a solo homer over the right field fence. Rowan added three runs in the second. Minch led off with a single up the middle. She advanced to second on a single by catcher Sam Stevens (so. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.). Leskanic got on base with a fielder’s choice and the bases were loaded. Labas singled over the shortstop’s head and Minch came home. Veneziano ripped a single to left center field driving in Leskanic. Arcella reached base on a fielder’s choice and Labas crossed the plate.

In the nightcap, right-hander Jamie Minix (jr. Clarksboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) pitched six innings and only gave up one run. She struck out five batters. Righty Erika Knorr (sr. Monroeville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) was on the mound for the final inning. Right-hander Jenna Vitale (sr. Kenilworth, NJ/David Brearly) suffered her first loss (3-1) on the mound.

Designated player Ashley Landi (sr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) paced the Profs with two hits (four at bats), two RBIs and a double. Arcella chipped in with two hits in four trips to the plate, a triple, one RBI and one run scored. Leskanic went one for three with two RBIs and one run scored. Stevens was two for four with a double, one RBI and one run scored. Minch contributed with two hits (three at bats), a double and two runs scored. First baseman Ashlie Gaynor (jr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) added one hit (four at bats) and one RBI.

Miele went two for four with a double and one RBI. Left fielder Raquel Roder (jr. Hoboken, NJ/Hoboken) registered one hit (three at bats) and one run scored. Second baseman Lindsey Nadolny (sr. Belford, NJ/Middletown N.), third baseman Alexa Veniero (so. Belleville, NJ/Belleville) and Vitale all had one hit.

Rowan was ahead 5-0 after scoring two runs in the second inning and three in the fourth. Stevens recorded a RBI double in the second, scoring Minch. Gaynor followed with a single to center field and Stevens crossed the plate. In the fourth, Leskanic drove in two runs with a single. She went home on Arcella’s triple to right field. William Paterson’s run came in the bottom of the fifth inning. Roder led off with a single to left field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. She moved to third on a ground out then scored on a double by Miele. The Profs added two more runs in the sixth. Landi drove in Veneziano and Arcella with a double. Veneziano got on base with a walk while Arcella singled up the middle.

Rowan is home again on Tuesday, April 5 against Richard Stockton College at 3 p.m.
