NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University men’s and women’s indoor track teams competed at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships on Friday. The two-day championships continue on Saturday at the Armory. Athletes had to qualify during the season for the meet.
Pierre James (so. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) finished second in the shot put. He had a throw of 52’ 10.75” (16.12 meters) which was a NCAA provisional (50’ 10.25”, 15.50 meters). Prior, he had a national provisional of 52’ 1.75” (15.89 meters) at the CTC Championships (Feb. 12). Eric DuBois (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) took third place in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:47.47. His time was better than the NCAA provisional of 14:49.40 on a banked track. This season, DuBois ran a NCAA provisional of 14:47.00 at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational (Feb.4).
Jena Peacock (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) came in sixth in the 5000 meters. Her time of 17:10.61 was a career best and a NCAA provisional (17:38.70 banked track). Heidi DeGuzman (jr. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken) ran a NCAA provisional of 7.30 in the 55 meters and qualified for the final on Saturday. She tied the school record that she set in 2009. The NCAA provisional is 7.32. Jamie Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) advanced to the 55 meter hurdles final. She had a school record time of 8.31 in the trials. Thompson broke the previous mark (8.40) that she ran this season.
The women’s 4x200 meter relay took fourth (1:45.94) with Amirah Muneer (jr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing), Kayla Leahey (fr. Keansburg, NJ/Warwick Valley), DeGuzman and Jacqui Nisbett (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury). The distance medley relay was 12th in 12:15.68 which included Samantha Stapleton (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Christina Huynh (so. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany), Alli Catenacci (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and Ashlee Petroski (fr. Verona, NJ/Verona). Their time was a new University mark. Prior, they ran a time of 12:35.25.
Leahey tied for 14th in the pole vault with a height of 10’ 6.75” (3.22 meters). Jessica Carlson (fr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) was 15th in the triple jump. She had a leap of 35’ 7.75” (10.86 meters).
The men’s 4x200 meter relay came in seventh with a time of 1:30.29. The relay consisted of Josh McGriff (so. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.), Jayce Maxwell (jr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Brandon Taylor (so. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and Ali Ejaz (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro).
