Rowan Competes On Final Day Of Wake Forest Open

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Rowan University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed on the final day at the Wake Forest Open on Saturday. The two-day meet was held at Wake Forest University.

The women’s distance medley relay of Samantha Stapleton (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), Beverlee Brownlee (so. Mt. Holly, NJ/Willingboro), Christina Huynh (so. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) and Jena Peacock (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) took third place in 12:39.61. It broke the previous University record of 12:46.4 set by Stephanie Aretz, Keshia Green, Ann Kavanaugh and Linda Vaughan in 1989.

Heidi DeGuzman (jr. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken), Amirah Muneer (jr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing), Jacqui Nisbett (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) and Tiffany Chamberlain (so. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) made up the 16th place (50.49) 4x100 meter relay. The 4x400 meter relay of Muneer, Nisbett, Chamberlain and Jamie Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) captured 20th place (4:05.21). The 4x100 (51.00) and 4x400 (4:10.00) meter relays both recorded Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifying times.

Peacock came in fourth place in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:17.02. In the 400 meter hurdles, Chamberlain finished seventh (1:02.77) and Nisbett was 21st (1:06.55). Both times were ECAC qualifiers (1:06.30). Chamberlain also topped the NCAA provisional (1:04.20). Thompson captured 10th in the 100 meter hurdles (14.93). Her time was better than the NCAA provisional (14.99) and ECAC qualifier (16.34). Magan Kustera (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) was 11th in the high jump A with a height of 5’ 5.25” (1.58 meters), which was equal to the ECAC qualifier.

Samantha Kamper (fr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) took 14th in the women’s high jump B with 4’ 9” (1.45 meters). Jessica Carlson (fr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) had a 20th place in the long jump with 16’ 2.25” (4.93 meters). In the javelin, Sarah Dores (fr. Maple Shade, NJ/Holy Cross) was 21st with a distance of 108’ 9” (33.15 meters). Jess Lomanaco (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) captured 30th in the discus with 106’ 2” (32.37 meters) followed by Emily Spieker (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), 32nd (104’ 7”, 31.89 meters). Tempeste Johnson (jr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) placed 39th in the discus with a throw of 97’ 7” (29.75 meters).

The men’s 4x100 meter relay of Brandon Taylor (so. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown), Jayce Maxwell (jr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Marcus Rawls (fr. North Brunswick, NJ/Florence Twp. Mem.) and Josh McGriff (so. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) was 12th overall in 42.93. The time was better than the ECAC qualifier (44.00). The 4x400 meter relay captured seventh (3:17.21) with the team of McGriff, Maxwell, Rawls and Taylor Purdue (so. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.). The 4x400 meter relay also recorded an ECAC qualifier (3:24.00).

Demetrius Rooks (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) finished fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (53.04). He surpassed the NCAA provisional time of 54.30. Ejaz followed in 15th place (55.03) and Benjamin Bradley (sr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) was 32nd (58.91). Rooks and Ejaz had ECAC qualifying times (56.60). Adam Diekewicz (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) took sixth in the pole vault B with a height of 13’ 1.5” (4.00 meters). Eric DuBois (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) had a 12th place in the 1500 meters (4:02.75). Stephen Hoffman (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) was 20th in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:17.29. Maxwell came in 38th in the 200 meters (22.45). In the discus, Frank Visconti (so. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) placed 35th with a distance of 126’ 5” (38.53 meters).

The Profs return to action on Saturday, March 26 at the Towson Invitational at 10 a.m. The meet is at Towson University in Towson, MD.
