55 meter hurdles results
COLUMBUS, OH – Rowan University’s Jamie Thompson advanced to the final of the 55 meter hurdles on Saturday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships. The national championships, March 11-12, are being held at The Capital Center on the campus of Capital University.
On Friday, Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) won heat one with a school record time of 8.13. The old mark was 8.31 by Thompson at last week’s Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships (Mar. 4). She ran the fastest time of the three heats.
The second heat was won by Monmouth College’s (IL) Alexa Allen in 8.23. Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Portia Jones was the winner of the third heat with a time of 8.19. Thompson will run in the second section of the 55 meter hurdles final with Carnegie Mellon’s Jacqueline Guevel, Allen and Jones. Guevel ran in the first heat and had a time of 8.23.
The 55 meter hurdles final is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. on Saturday. Jena Peacock (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) will run in the 5000 meters at 6:40 p.m. The top eight finishers in each event earn All-America honors.
Thompson had the fourth best time (8.23) among the 16 qualifiers. Her time of 8.85 in the 60 meter hurdles at the Armory Collegiate Challenge (Feb. 25) was converted. Thompson broke the 55 meter hurdles school record (8.40) that she held in the trials (8.31) at the ECAC Championships (Mar. 4).
Peacock qualified for the national championships with a converted time of 17:13.91. She is ninth out of 15 competitors. This season, Peacock ran a career best of 17:10.61 for sixth place at the ECAC Championships (Mar. 4). She finished eighth (17:37.82) at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational (Feb. 5). Peacock was a member of the NJAC All-Conference second team in the one mile and received All-Conference honorable mention on the 4x800 meter relay. She was chosen the NJAC Runner of the Week once time during the indoor season.
