TCNJ Defeats Host Rowan, 67-55

GLASSBORO, NJ – The College of New Jersey women’s basketball team defeated host Rowan University, 67-55 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Monday night.

The Lions had three players that scored in double figures. Guard Jessica Imhof (jr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) led the way with a game-high 22 points that included five three-pointers. She also grabbed six rebounds. Center Alexandra Gregorek (sr. Mahwah, NJ/Academy of Holy Angels) contributed with 16 points and six boards. Forward Hannah Tait (jr. Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) added 10 points and five rebounds. Guard Keri Washington (sr. Ewing, NJ/Pennington Prep) dished seven assists and collected nine rebounds.

TCNJ has a 13-9 record with a 6-5 conference mark. The Lions have won three straight games. Rowan is 11-9 overall and 6-4 in the NJAC. For the Profs, forward Lauren Gregg (jr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) totaled 16 points and nine rebounds. Guard Gina Catanzariti (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) registered 13 points and guard Lauren Creel (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) followed with 10. Forward Brittany Baum (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) recorded a career-mark with 13 rebounds.

TCNJ built an eight point lead (12-4) in the first 5:42 of the game. Tait scored five points, Imhof hit a three while Gregorek and Washington each had two points. Rowan followed with two foul shots (13:10) by guard Christine Gannon (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and a three-point play by Gregg (12:21) to cut the deficit to three (12-9). Guard Stephanie Prall (sr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) sank two free throws (9:50) that put the Lions back up by eight (19-11).

Baum had a layup with 6:07 remaining and the Profs trailed by two (21-19). Imhof nailed a three-pointer (5:44) and Gregorek tallied two foul shots (5:19) for a seven point advantage (26-19). Forward Liz West’s (fr. Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Reg.) jumper at 1:18 made the score 31-23. With seven seconds on the clock, Creel ended the first half scoring with two free throws. The Lions were up 31-25 at the intermission.

In the second period, Prall’s three gave the Lions a 14 point advantage (51-37). The Profs pulled within seven points (51-44) after a 7-0 run that ended at 6:20 with a jumper by Gregg. Imhof nailed a three-pointer at 5:29 to lead by 11 (56-45). With 2:05 left, Catanzariti’s jumper pulled Rowan within nine points (60-51). TCNJ pulled away with a 7-1 surge for a 15 point lead (67-52) with 15 seconds remaining. Gregorek scored four of the seven points. Gregg made a three-pointer to end the game at the one second mark. Imhof registered 16 second half points while Gregorek had 10.

Rowan is home again on Wednesday, February 9 against Rutgers-Camden at 8 p.m.
