Rowan Men Win Frank Colden Invitational; Women Take Third

COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Rowan University men’s indoor track team won the Frank Colden Invitational and the women finished third. The invitational was held at Ursinus College. The men scored 131 points for the title out of 11 schools and the women had 98.5 points among 12 teams.

The Profs won the men’s 4x400 meter relay (3:31.50) with Josh McGriff (so. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.), Demetrius Rooks (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami), Taylor Purdue (so. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) and Benjamin Bradley (sr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills). Mike Carotenuto (so. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) came in first in the one mile with a time of 4:26.30. Kyle Hayes (sr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) was the winner in the long jump with a leap of 21’ 8.75” (6.62 meters). Adam Diekewicz (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) was the winner in the pole vault with 13’ 5.25” (4.10 meters).

In the high jump, Brian Makinson (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) took second (6’ 2”, 1.88 meters) followed by Joe Mineo (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) third (6’ 0”, 1.83 meters). Bradley had a second place (8.45) in the 55 meter hurdles while Makinson was third (8.74). Frank Visconti (so. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) finished second (45’ 1.75”, 13.76 meters) in the shot put and Dhamiri Wilson (sr. Camden, NJ/Camden) was fourth (40’ 0”, 12.19 meters). Purdue’s time of 52.14 was second in the 400 meters.

Andy Charles (fr. Newark, NJ/Atlantic City) produced a third place (40’ 4.75”, 12.31 meters) in the triple jump and was fourth (20’ 7”, 6.27 meters) in the long jump. In the 55 meters, Brandon Taylor (so. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and Marcus Rawls (fr. North Brunswick, NJ/Florence Twp. Mem.) were third (6.72) and fourth (6.76) respectively. Rooks came in fourth (23.64) in the 200 meters. Brian Quilty (sr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) finished fourth (16:09.13) in the 5000 meters and Stephen Hoffman (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) followed seventh (16:36.54). McGriff had a fifth place (53.34) in the 400 meters. Marcus Lee (so. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) took sixth (23.91) in the 200 meters while Taylor was eighth (23.99).

The women won the 4x400 (4:15.06) and the 4x800 (10:15.58) meter relays. The 4x400 included Kayla Leahey (fr. Keansburg, NJ/Warwick Valley), Jacqui Nisbitt (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury), Tiffany Chamberlain (so. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) and Amirah Muneer (jr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing). Alli Catenacci (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Ashlee Petroski (fr. Verona, NJ/Verona), Samantha Stapleton (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Jena Peacock (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) were on the 4x800. The 4x200 meter relay finished second (1:48.14) with Heidi DeGuzman (jr. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken), Leahey, Nisbitt and Muneer.

Leahey captured first in the pole vault with a height of 10’ 6” (3.20 meters). Jamie Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) finished first (17’ 1.5”, 5.22 meters) in the long jump followed by Jessica Carlson (fr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) second (16’ 1.5”, 4.91 meters). Thompson also had a second place (8.59) in the 55 meter hurdles and was sixth (7.76) in the 55 meters. In the 55 meter hurdles trials, she had a time of 8.54 which was a NCAA provisional (8.55). Carlson took third (8.86) in the 55 meter hurdles while Nisbitt was fourth (9.07).

Grace Kaler (fr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) ran 5:38.90 in the one mile for fourth. Stapleton came in fourth (1:03.78) in the 400 meters and DeGuzman took fourth (7.52) in the 55 meters. Catenacci finished sixth (1:03.95) in the 400 meters and Petroski was eighth (1:04.97). Sam Kamper (fr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) tied for seventh place in the high jump with 4’ 9.75” (1.47 meters).

Next week, Rowan travels to Wesleyan University (CT) for the CTC Championships on Saturday, February 12.
