GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s swim teams defeated Cabrini College in a nonconference meet on Saturday. The men won, 90-50, while the women had a 99-64 victory.

The men took first place in the 200 yard medley (1:38.85) and 200 yard freestyle (1:30.59) relays. Bill Malone (jr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), Dan Bower (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Ryan McNally (sr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) and Jake Scaramazza (fr. Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown) made up the medley relay. The freestyle relay consisted of Bower, Malone, Kevin Sheridan (jr. E. Brunswick, NJ/E. Brunswick) and Jeff Terrell (so. Linwood, NJ/Mainland Reg.).

Michael Brooks (sr. Brigantine, NJ/Holy Spirit) was the winner in the 100 yard freestyle (49.77) and 200 yard individual medley (2:04.13). Terrell captured first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:50.55), while Mitch Friedel (fr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was first in the 50 yard freestyle (22.87). McNally came in first in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 55.16. Tim Dimond (so. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Mike Demarest (fr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) won the 100 yard backstroke (56.24) and 500 yard freestyle (5:19.58) respectively.

Jerry Capriotti (fr Vineland, NJ/Vineland) finished second in the 200 yard individual medley (2:09.60). In the 200 yard freestyle, Dave Washick (jr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) was third with a time of 1:54.95. Peter Wilson (fr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) had a third place in the 50 yard freestyle (23.31).

The women’s 200 yard medley relay of Kate Winters (sr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro S.), Stacey Rahter (sr. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Anne O’Gorman (sr. Boonton, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth) and Caroline Lewis (sr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) won in 1:56.39.

Sam King (sr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) was the winner in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:13.65) and 500 yard freestyle (5:38.13). Charlene Gustafson (fr. Clifton, NJ/Clifton) took first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:03.68), while Teresa Stearns (so. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) won the 50 yard freestyle (26.29). Winters captured first in the 200 yard individual medley (2:16.15) and O’Gorman won the 100 yard butterfly (1:02.55). Lindsey Raleigh (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) and Rahter had first places in the 100 yard backstroke (1:04.90) and 100 yard freestyle (57.07) respectively.

In the 100 yard butterfly, Allison Schneider (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) came in second (1:03.96), followed by Abby Grasso (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) third (1:07.96). Briana Baud (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) had second places in the 50 (26:32) and 100 (58.11) yard freestyles.

Rowan travels to the Metropolitan Championships on Friday-Sunday, February 18-20. The three-day meet is at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.
