Rowan Athletes Compete At Armory Collegiate Challenge

NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University men’s and women’s indoor track teams had individuals that competed at the Armory Collegiate Challenge on Friday night.

Jamie Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) ran the 60 meter hurdles in 8.85 which was a NCAA automatic qualifier and she finished third overall. The NCAA automatic time is 8.87. Jena Peacock (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) took second in the mile with a time of 5:00.27 that was better than the NCAA provisional (5:03.10 banked track).

The women’s distance medley came in fourth (12:35.25) with Alli Catenacci (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Christina Huynh (so. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany), Samantha Stapleton (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) and Peacock. The 11th place 4x400 meter relay (4:01.25) included Kayla Leahey (fr. Keansburg, NJ/Warwick Valley), Jacqui Nisbett (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury), Amirah Muneer (jr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) and Tiffany Chamberlain (so. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.).

Heidi DeGuzman (jr. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken) finished 11th (8.0) in the 60 meters and was 25th (27.11) in the 200 meters. Jessica Carlson (fr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) took 12th place in the triple jump with a leap of 36’ (10.97 meters). She was 19th (9.53) in the 60 meter hurdles. In the 400 meters, Muneer finished 18th (1:00.04) while Nisbett was 21st (1:00.55) and Stapleton followed 27th (1:01.69). Catenacci ran 1:22.19 in the 500 meters for 23rd. Magan Kustera (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) had a 17th place in the high jump with a height of 5’ 0.25” (1.53 meters) and Samantha Kamper (fr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) was 21st (5’ 0.25”, 1.53 meters).

In the men’s 400 meters, Demetrius Rooks (so. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) came in fifth with a NCAA provisional of 49.34. The 400 meters NCAA provisional is 49.35 (banked track). Kyle Hayes (sr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) finished ninth in the long jump with 21’ 8.75” (6.62 meters). Benjamin Bradley (sr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) had a 14th place (8.95) in the 60 meter hurdles. Mike Carotenuto (so. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) was 14th in the mile (4:22.64) and qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships. The ECAC qualifying time is 4:23.54. Jayce Maxwell (jr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) had a time of 51.20 (34th) in the 400 meters while Ali Ejaz (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) and Josh McGriff (so. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) ran 51.95 (43rd) and 52.63 (46th) respectively.

Next week, Rowan will return to the Armory for the ECAC Championships on Friday-Saturday, March 4-5.
