Catanzariti Scores 1,000th Career Point in 88-78 Loss to Richard Stockton

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Richard Stockton College women’s basketball team won 88-78 over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.

In the Profs’ last home game of the regular season, guard Gina Catanzariti (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) scored her 1,000th career point. She is the 14th women’s player at the University to reach the mark. Her 1,000th point came on a layup with 35 seconds left. She finished the contest with 21 points which tied her career-high.

Richard Stockton was led by center LaTonya Oliver (jr. West Berlin, NJ/Overbrook) with game-highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Che’Na Thompson (so. Salem, NJ/Salem) contributed with 17 points and guard Aliyah Nelson (jr. Pleasantville, NJ/St. Joseph) followed with 16. Forward Lauren Alwan (fr. Winslow, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) added eight points and nine boards. Thompson also collected six rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks.

The Ospreys are 17-7 overall with a 9-3 NJAC mark. The Profs have a 12-10 record and they are 7-5 in the conference. Guard Alissa Lamey (jr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) had a career-best with 18 points. Guard Lauren Creel (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) scored 14 points while forward Lauren Gregg (jr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) registered 10.

Rowan started the second half with a two point lead (36-34). Thompson recorded a layup and foul shot at 19:15 to go up by one (37-36). The Ospreys were ahead until Lamey nailed a three at 16:08 (43-42). Alwan (15:44) and Nelson (15:22) each had a basket for a three point advantage (46-43). Catanzariti tied the score at 48 (13:40) with a layup. Guard Aspen Price-Perry (so. Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold) hit a three-pointer and Richard Stockton led by six points (56-50). With 9:08 remaining, Lamey had a jumper and the Profs trailed by three (61-58). The Ospreys built a 10 point lead (68-58) on a 7-0 run that ended at 7:56 with a layup by Oliver.

At 5:31, Oliver’s jumper made the score, 74-62. Price-Perry had two foul shots (2:48) that stretched the margin to 15 (82-67). Rowan trailed by eight (84-76) at the 35 second mark on Catanzariti’s basket. Richard Stockton ended the contest with four straight free throws. Nelson (0:16) and Thompson (0:03) had two apiece. Oliver guided the Ospreys in the second half with 18 points while Catanzariti had 15 for the Profs.

The score was tied six times in the first stanza. The last one was at 34 with 48 seconds on the clock after a basket by the Profs’ forward Brittany Baum (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.). She also had a layup as time expired that made the score, 36-34. Creel was the scoring leader in the first period with 10 points.

Next week, Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, February 16 for the final conference game at 6 p.m.
