GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team lost to visiting Eastern University, 77-67 in a nonconference game on Wednesday night.

The Eagles have a 6-1 record with a four-game win streak while the Profs are 4-5 overall.  Forward Meghan Nowak (fr. Woodbury Heights, NJ/Gateway Reg.) scored a game-high 21 points for Eastern.  She also grabbed eight rebounds.  Guard Katie Lincoln (so. West Rutland, VT/West Rutland) followed with 20 points and guard Shante Jones (sr. Dayton, OH/Carroll) chipped in with 14 off the bench.  Lincoln and Jones registered five assists apiece.  Forward Bekah Roland (sr. Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) had a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. 

For Rowan, center Kate Matthews (fr. Clarks, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) totaled 15 points while forward Lauren Gregg (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) and guard Kaitlin Schullstrom (fr. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) each collected 13.  Gregg posted a career-high 15 rebounds.  Forward Lauren Creel (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) added 10 points.  Guard Alissa Lamey (sr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) dished five assists.  

Eastern was ahead 38-34 to start the second half.  Roland’s layup increased the lead to seven (43-36) at 17:12.  The Eagles were ahead 55-42 after Nowak nailed two straight threes at 13:05 and 12:01.  Jones’ jumper made the score 61-47 with 8:44 remaining.  The Profs cut the deficit to eight points (61-53) at 7:25.  Lamey, Matthews and Creel all had a basket.  Roland had a layup for a 10-point advantage (63-53) at 7:09.  Matthews made two free throws (6:45) and Rowan trailed 63-55.  Nowak’s layup at 3:09 put Eastern ahead by nine (66-57).  Forward Erin Farrell (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) hit a three-pointer at 2:37 and the Profs were down by six (66-60).  Lincoln had a basket at the 43 second mark to lead 72-62.  Schullstrom followed with a three (0:36) and Gregg added a jumper (0:25) to pull within five points (72-67).  Eastern sealed the win with five consecutive points.     

The Eagles started the game with 15 straight points in 5:51.  Nowak led the way with seven points.  Jones’ three-pointer at 11:48 made the score 23-6.  With 8:40 remaining, Eastern was ahead by 14 points (30-16) after two foul shots by Jones.  Rowan then had a 7-0 run to pull within seven points (30-23) at 6:44.  Lincoln’s three at 4:58 stretched the advantage to 10 points (33-23).  With 3:47 on the clock, Jones converted two free throws that made the score 35-25.  The Profs ended the period with a 9-3 surge to trail by four points (38-34) at the break.  Creel contributed with four points while Gregg had three and Farrell had two.  Lincoln was the scoring leader in the first half with 14 points and Nowak followed with 11.    

Next, Rowan hosts Neumann University on Saturday, December 10 at 7 p.m.
