JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team won 76-44 at New Jersey City University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday afternoon.
The Profs are 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The Gothic Knights have a 0-4 record with a 0-1 NJAC mark. Forward Erin Farrell (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) led Rowan with a career-high 19 points off the bench. Forward Lauren Gregg (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) contributed with 16 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Forward Lauren Creel (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) chipped in with 14 points. Guard Ashley Waring (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) recorded seven boards that was a career mark and guard Alissa Lamey (sr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) dished nine assists.
For NJCU, forward Alnisa Hernaiz (so. Irvington, NJ/Irvington) scored 12 points. Forward Maxine Kaminski (jr. Kearny, NJ/Kearny) added nine points. Forward Delia Chernez (jr. Union City, NJ/Union City) and guard Nidia Carmona (jr. Elizabeth, NJ/Elizabeth) each grabbed five rebounds.
In the first half, the Gothic Knights were ahead 7-5 at 15:54 after a jumper by guard Gabrielle Rivera (jr. Teaneck, NJ/St. Joseph of the Palisades). The Profs went ahead 14-7 with a 9-0 run that ended 13:48. Gregg produced seven points and Creel had two. Hernaiz’s two foul shots at 11:01 cut the deficit to three points (14-11). Farrell made two free throws (9:21) that put Rowan up by seven (18-11). With 8:03 remaining, Carmona pulled NJCU within three points (18-15) with a layup.
The Profs scored 14 straight points to lead 32-15 with 54 seconds on the clock. Gregg and Farrell had four points apiece in the run. At the end of the half, Rowan was ahead 36-17. Gregg ended the period with 16 points while Farrell registered 12.
Creel scored with a layup (42-19) at 18:02 in the second stanza. At 16:40, Rowan was up by 20 points (44-24). Center Kate Matthews (fr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) produced three consecutive baskets for a 26-point advantage (50-24) at 15:18. Farrell’s jump shot at 9:08 put the Profs up by 32 points (63-31). Rowan was ahead by 33 (68-35) after a layup by Lamey with 6:10 left. She hit a three at 4:07 that made the score 71-39. The Profs’ biggest lead was 34 points (73-39) after forward Courtney Hulsart’s (jr. South Amboy, NJ/South Amboy) basket. Creel was the top scorer in the final half with 10 points.
Rowan plays at home on Monday, December 5 against Immaculata University at 6 p.m.
