GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team had a 3-0 victory over William Paterson University in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Tuesday night. The set scores were 25-16, 25-12 and 25-17.
Rowan (15-15), the third seed, travels to the second seed Ramapo College for the semifinals on Thursday, November 3 at 7 p.m. William Paterson, the sixth seed, finishes the regular season with a 17-11 record. In the other first round match on Tuesday, the fifth seed Rutgers-Camden defeated the fourth seed Montclair State University, 3-1. The top seed Richard Stockton College will host Rutgers-Camden on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The NJAC Championship Tournament final is on Saturday, November 5 at the highest remaining seed. The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
The Profs were led by outside hitter/middle blocker Krissy Collins (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) with 12 kills. She produced a .393 hitting percentage. Outside hitter/middle blocker Dakota Oeskovic (so. Pine Beach, NJ/Toms River S.) registered 10 kills and a .318 hitting percentage. Middle blocker Elaina Hansen (so. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) chipped in with six kills. Setter Kelsey Donovan (so. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) collected 28 assists and 15 digs.
Libero Lauren Ruffalo (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had a match-high 20 digs. Defensive specialist Sarah Betancourt (sr. Harrington Park, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) tallied nine digs and middle blocker Sarah Hanrahan (fr. Montvale, NJ/Pascack Hills) had eight digs and five blocks.
For the Pioneers, outside hitter Kim Runge (sr. Closter, NJ/Northern Valley Demarest) compiled six kills and six digs. Outside hitter Megan Maher (sr. Wood-Ridge, NJ/Wood-Ridge) contributed with four kills and 15 digs. Outside hitter/opposite Katelyn Malloy (fr. Leonia, NJ/Leonia) totaled 11 digs, while setter Danielle Koukos (fr. Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) had eight. Setter Liz Dykhouse (jr. Wanaque, NJ/Lakeland Reg.) accumulated eight digs and seven assists.
