GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team defeated New Jersey City University, 3-2 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday night.
The Profs are 6-4-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the conference. The Gothic Knights have a 3-7-1 record with a 0-3 NJAC mark.
Rowan ended the game with 14 total shots while NJCU took 12. Goalkeeper Ryan Gill (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) turned away three shots for the Profs. Goalkeeper Manny Lojo (sr. Clark, NJ/Union Catholic) made five saves for the Gothic Knights.
In the first half, NJCU got on the scoreboard at 5:19. Midfielder/forward Amanfo Assibu (jr. Bronx, NY/Sheepshead Bay) hit the lower right corner of the Rowan net on a breakaway after a pass from forward Walter Avans (sr. Roselle Park, NJ/Union Catholic). Forward Shane Kohler (fr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) tied the score at 10:09. Forward Jullian Berrios (jr. Lakewood, NJ/Calvary Academy) had a cross to Kohler who had a one-timer to the lower left corner.
Rowan took the lead at 22:57 on a goal by forward Christian Fountain (fr. Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) with an assist from midfielder Andrew Brawner (jr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape). Midfielder Shane Dooley (jr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) followed with a goal, 5:41 later. Dooley’s shot hit the upper left corner of the goal after a free kick by back Jared Mangone (jr. Princeton Jct., NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.). The Gothic Knights pulled within one at 73:15. Assibu hit the lower left corner with a cross from midfielder Tom Krychkowski (sr. North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington).
Rowan travels to Ramapo College on Wednesday, October 12 for a 4 p.m. conference game.
