GLASSBORO, NJ – The Widener University women’s volleyball team had a 3-0 victory over Rowan University in a nonconference match on Thursday night.
The Pride improve to 13-6, while the Profs have a 9-7 record. The set scores were 25-18, 25-11 and 25-10.
Widener was led by right side Nicole Merton (sr. Media, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) with a match-high 11 kills. Middle hitter Shauna Phillips (jr. Dallas, PA/Dallas) followed with eight kills. Outside hitter/middle hitter Alecra Edison (sr. Lancaster, CA/Lancaster) registered six kills, eight digs, four blocks and four service aces. Setter Jamie Ballew (sr. Media, PA/Penncrest) added 30 assists and three aces. Libero Meghan Spence (jr. Havertown, PA/Haverford) compiled 20 digs and four service aces.
For Rowan, outside hitter/middle blocker Dakota Oeskovic (so. Pine Beach, NJ/Toms River S.) posted nine kills, while outside hitter/middle blocker Krissy Collins (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) had six. Setter Kelsey Donovan (so. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) collected 10 assists. Libero Lauren Ruffalo (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) chipped in with 19 digs. Defensive specialist Nicole Ciandella (so. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) tallied 11 digs and five assists.
Rowan travels to Gallaudet University in Washington, DC for the Worthington Classic on Friday-Saturday, October 7-8. On Friday, the Profs play Catholic University at 2 p.m. and Virginia Wesleyan College at 6 p.m. Rowan faces Keuka College at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
