GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s volleyball split a tri-match on Saturday. Rowan defeated Gwynedd-Mercy College, 3-0 and lost to Stevenson University, 3-0. In the other match, Stevenson had a 3-0 victory over Gwynedd-Mercy.
In the first match, Rowan (14-15) won with set scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-20. Outside hitters/middle blockers Kirstin Sciolaro (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) and Dakota Oeskovic (so. Pine Beach, NJ/Toms River S.) tallied nine kills apiece. Sciolaro had a .400 hitting percentage. Setter Kelsey Donovan (so. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) accumulated 18 assists and 11 digs. Libero Lauren Ruffalo (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) recorded a team-high 14 digs and three service aces.
For Gwynedd-Mercy (8-18), middle blocker Rachel Lambert (sr. Downingtown, PA/Downingtown W.) posted eight kills. Middle blocker Kelsey Craig (jr. Boothwyn, PA/Chichester) and outside hitter Aileen Reilly (sr. Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) collected 12 and 10 digs respectively. Libero Ariana Richards (jr. Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) had a match-high 17 digs.
Stevenson (29-2) topped Gwynedd-Mercy with set scores of 25-7, 25-14 and 25-11. The Mustangs beat the Profs 25-22, 25-15 and 25-19. Outside hitter Avery Gabbard (jr. Arnold, MD/Broadneck) registered 13 kills. Outside hitter Christine Isenberg (so. Taneytown, MD/Francis Scott Key) chipped in with 10 kills and 20 digs. Right side Brooke Gilley (sr. Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) added eight kills. Libero Tara Shishmanian (fr. Baltimore, MD/Greater Grace) amassed 30 digs. Setter Jessica Gieselman (so. Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) produced 40 assists and 15 digs.
For Rowan, outside hitter/middle blocker Krissy Collins (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) totaled eight kills, while Oeskovic had seven. Donovan collected 18 assists and 13 digs. Ruffalo contributed with 21 digs. Defensive specialist Nicole Ciandella (so. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) recorded 14 digs and defensive specialist Sarah Betancourt (sr. Harrington Park, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) had 12.
The Profs are the third seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. Rowan hosts the sixth seed William Paterson University in the first round at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students, senior citizens and children.
