Swim Teams Defeat Host Cabrini For Third Straight Win

RADNOR, PA– The Rowan University swim teams are undefeated with wins at Cabrini College on Saturday.  The men won 99-57 and the women had a 106-81 score. 

Both Prof teams are 3-0 on the season.  The Cabrini men have a 1-2 record and the women drop to 0-3 overall. In the relay events, the women won the 200 yard medley and 200 yard freestyle with times of 2:00.17 and 1:48.51 respectively.  The medley relay consisted of Lindsey Raleigh (jr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.), Casey Sickler (fr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.), Teresa Stearns (jr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Charlene Gustafson (so. Clifton, NJ/Clifton).  Nicole Vick (fr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.), Leanne Zaug (fr. Florham, Park, NJ/Hanover Park), Stearns and Raleigh made up the free relay.

The men swam a winning time of 1:40.25 in the 200 yard medley relay with Larry Dow (so. Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams), Dan Bower (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), Tim Dimond (jr. Allentown, PA/Emmaus) and Elliot Ortiz (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland).  The Profs also won the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:31.07.  The free relay was comprised of Dow, Tony Cervini (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland), Ortiz and Mitch Friedel (so. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest).

Allison Schneider (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) took first place in the 200 yard individual medley (IM) (2:21.55) and 500 yard freestyle (5:34.66).  Stearns swam a winning time of 26.54 in the 50 yard free.  Gustafson finished first (1:02.60) in the 100 yard butterfly while Raleigh came in first (1:04.57) in the 100 yard backstroke (1:04.57).  In the 200 yard freestyle, Abby Grasso (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) took first (2:09.24) followed by Adrienne Bush (so. Silver Spring, MD/James Hubert Blake), second (2:11.23) and Christie Carroll (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), fourth (2:16.95). 

Sickler won the 100 yard breaststroke (1:15.72) and she was second (2:30.56) in the 200 yard IM.  Zaug had a second place (27.36) in the 50 yard free.  Michelle Dunn (sr. Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) and Alyssa Schaefer (fr. Ringwood, NJ/DePaul Catholic) finished third (1:09.07) and fourth (1:09.46) respectively in the 100 yard butterfly.

Bill Malone (sr. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) swam to first places in the 50 (21.84) and 500 (5:01.61) yard freestyles.  Dow came in first in the 100 yard backstroke (54.28) and Bower won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.01).  Dimond had a winning time of 49.81 in the 100 yard freestyle. Gary Hessler (fr. Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) captured first (10:51.69) in the 1000 yard freestyle.

Ryan Hennessy (so. Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) finished first (56.22) in the 100 yard butterfly.  Luke Minka (fr. Wilmington, DE/Vista (CA)) won the 200 individual medley in 2:04.70.  In the 100 yard breaststroke, Liam Tully (fr. Cedar Grove, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) took third (1:05.79) followed by Dan Choyce (so. Erial, NJ/St. Augustine Prep), fourth (1:07.46).

The swim teams will host the Rowan Cup Races on Saturday, November 19.  The morning session is at 10:30 a.m. and the evening session starts at 5 p.m.
