Rowan Falls In Overtime, 2-1 At Kean

UNION, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team lost in overtime, 2-1 at Kean University on Friday night.

Forward Alexander Fernandez (fr. Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) scored the game-winner at 6:31 into the 10 minute overtime.  His shot hit the lower right side of the Profs’ net after a feed from forward Sheldon Palmer (jr. Kingston, Jamaica/Ardenne). 

Kean (10-5-2) ended the game with 25 shots while Rowan (7-5-3) took 13.  Cougar goalkeeper Nick Pavlichko (fr. Byram, NJ/Lenape Valley Reg.) made two saves in the first half.  Goalkeeper Tyler Callahan (so. Landisville, NJ/Buena Reg.) was in the net for the second and overtime periods.  Prof goalkeeper Ryan Gill (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) stopped seven shots.

The Profs jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 1:22 with a goal by forward Christian Fountain (fr. Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford).  Fountain headed in midfielder Nick Bolton’s (so. Dover, De/Dover) throw in.  Palmer scored the tying goal at 7:16.  He knocked in the rebound after his initial shot on a breakaway was saved by Gill.

Next, Rowan travels to Medgar Evers College on Monday, October 24 for a 7 p.m. contest.
