NEWARK, NJ – Midfielder Dayna Sakalsky scored three goals to lead the Rowan University women’s soccer team to an 8-0 victory over Rutgers-Newark in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday night.

The Profs have a 9-3 record with a 5-0 NJAC mark.  The Scarlet Raiders are 4-12 overall and 0-5 in the conference. 

Sakalsky (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) also picked up one assist.  Backs Miranda Donnian (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) and Marina Mangano (jr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.) and midfielders Evynn Wright (sr. Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Reg.), Victoria Camera (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton W.) and Michelle Borghese (jr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) all scored once.  Midfielders Nina Fragoso (jr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) and Christie Fink (sr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and back Leah Mascitti (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) dished one assist apiece.

Rowan took 25 shots, while Rutgers-Newark had seven.  Profs’ goalkeeper Lyndsie Bernardini (jr. Elmer, NJ/A.P. Schalick) made one save in the first half.  Goalkeeper Maria Dorris (jr. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) turned away one shot in the second period.  Scarlet Raiders’ goalkeeper Victoria Nunez (fr. Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy) stopped five shots in 72:15.  Goalkeeper Camelia Valentin (jr. Haskell, NJ/Lakeland Reg.) made one save in the final 17:45.

Donnian put the Profs ahead, 1-0 at 4:52 in the first period.  She headed in a pass from Fragoso.  Wright found the net at 24:19.  Sakalsky’s first goal came on a breakaway at 28:03.  With nine seconds left, Sakalsky recorded an unassisted goal to give Rowan a 4-0 halftime advantage.

Mangano had a goal that hit the right side of the net at 57:30 in the second.  Camera scored on a feed from Sakalsky at 65:20.  Sakalsky knocked in a loose ball at 72:03 to increase the lead to  7-0.  With 10:06 left to play, Mascitti sent a long pass to Borghese, who kicked the ball into the net.

Rowan travels to New Jersey City University on Tuesday, October 18 at 3:30 p.m.
