NEWARK, DE – The Rowan University men’s and women’s indoor track teams traveled to the University of Delaware on Saturday for the Thomson Invitational. In the Division II/III scoring, the women finished fifth among 24 schools and the men came in sixth out of 21 institutions.

Grace Kaler (fr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) won the 5000 meters in 19:49.15. Jena Peacock (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) ran a time of 5:18.01 for second in the one mile. Jamie Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) had a second place (9.40) in the 60 meter hurdles. Heidi DeGuzman (jr. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken) came in second (8.24) in the 60 meters and fifth (27.80) in the 200 meters. In the 5000 meters, Joy Hanke (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) finished second (20:24.83) followed by Danielle Czohla (jr. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) third (20:34.42).

Jacqui Nisbett (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) took third (9.53) in the 60 meter hurdles and Jessica Carlson (fr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) was fourth (9.62). Kayla Leahey (fr. Keansburg, NJ/Warwick Valley) and Nisbett were fourth (1:24.27) and fifth (1:24.48) respectively in the 500 meters. Samantha Stapleton (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) finished fourth (3:23.12) in the 1000 meters. Gabby Prendergast (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) registered a fourth place (5:36.23) in the one mile. Tiffany Chamberlain (so. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) had a fifth place (1:02.44) in the 400 meters and she was eighth (9.83) in the 60 meter hurdles. Alli Catenacci (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) came in sixth (1:24.86) in the 500 meters while Amirah Muneer (jr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) was ninth (1:27.23).

In the field events, Carlson took second in the triple jump with a distance of 34’ 2.25” (10.42 meters). Jamie Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) came in second in the long jump with 16’ 9.25” (5.11 meters). Leahey had a height of 10’ 10” (3.30 meters) for third in the pole vault. Samantha Kamper (fr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) had a sixth place in the high jump (4’ 11”, 1.50 meters). Jess Lomanaco (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) was sixth (35’ 11.5”, 10.96 meters) in the shot put.

The women’s 4x400 (4:21.53) and 4x800 (10:11.09) meter relays recorded third places. The 4x400 included Leahey, Nisbett, Muneer and Chamberlain. Prendergast, Catenacci, Stapleton and Peacock were on the 4x800.

For the men, Will Smith (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) won the one mile in 4:22.54. Eric DuBois (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) came in second (4:23.89) followed by Mike Carotenuto (so. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) third (4:24.90).

Pierre James (so. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) had a winning throw of 50’ 6” (15.39 meters) in the shot put and Frank Visconti (so. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) was second (46’ 4.75”, 14.14 meters). John Grinnell (fr. Farmingdale, NJ/Howell) posted a fifth place (41’ 1.75”, 12.54 meters) in the weight throw while Scott Baron (jr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) finished eighth (30’ 0.75”, 9.16 meters). Andy Charles (fr. Newark, NJ/Atlantic City) took sixth (40’ 6”, 12.34 meters) in the triple jump.

The men’s 4x800 meter relay had a winning time of 8:19.28 with Smith, DuBois, Carotenuto and Nick Huddy (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.). The 4x400 meter relay took third in 3:34.54. Josh McGriff (so. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.), Taylor Purdue (so. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Jayce Maxwell (jr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and Benjamin Bradley (sr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) made up the 4x400.

Huddy finished seventh (2:06.31) in the 800 meters. Brandon Taylor (so. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) tied for sixth (7.30) in the 60 meters. Joe Mineo (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) had a seventh place (6’ 0.5”, 1.84 meters) in the high jump. In the 500 meters, Tom Austin (so. Mantua, NJ/West Deptford) and Bradley were eighth (1:12.51) and ninth (1:12.55) respectively. McGriff came in seventh (53.36) in the 400 meters and Purdue followed eighth (53.57). Maxwell finished eighth (23.49) in the 200 meters. In the 3,000 meters, Brian Quilty (sr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) took eighth place (9:23.27) while Stephen Hoffman (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) was ninth (9:24.15). Maxwell and Marcus Lee (sr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) tied for 11th (7.37) in the 60 meters.

Next week, Rowan will compete at the Frank Colden Invitational on Saturday, February 5 at 9 a.m. The invitational will be held at Ursinus College.
