Rowan Indoor Track Teams Compete at Collegeville Classic

COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The Rowan University men’s and women’s indoor track teams competed at the Collegeville Classic on Friday. The men took first place among 14 teams, while the women finished second out of 15 schools. The meet was held at Ursinus College.

Will Smith (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) won the men’s one mile run with a time of 4:25.10. Eric DuBois (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) was the winner in the 3000 meters (8:50.83). He also came in fifth in the one mile (4:30.43). Kyle Hayes (sr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) had a first place in the long jump with a distance of 22’ 3.5” (6.79 meters). Pierre James (so. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) captured first in the shot put with a throw of 51’ 5.5” (15.68 meters). His toss was better than the NCAA provisional of 50' 10.25" (15.50 meters). James currently has the seventh best throw in Division III. 

Mark Lisa (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) took second place in the long jump with 22’ 1” (6.73 meters). In the triple jump, Lisa finished third (41’ 5”, 12.62 meters), Hayes was eighth (39’ 3.75”, 11.98 meters) and Andy Charles (fr. Newark, NJ/Atlantic City) followed ninth (39’ 2.25”, 11.94 meters). Joe Carmichael (so. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) placed second in the shot put with a toss of 46’ 7.25” (14.20 meters). Joe Mineo (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) came in fourth in the high jump with 6’ 2” (1.88 meters), while Brian Makinson (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) tied for fifth (6’, 1.83 meters).

Mike Carotenuto (so. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) finished third in the one mile (4:28.80) and Jeff Terebey (sr. Shamong, NJ/Shawnee) was eighth (4:36.95). In the 3000 meters, Jake McCormack (jr. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) and Brian Quilty (sr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) were third (9:10.96) and sixth (9:20.41) respectively.

For the women, Jena Peacock (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) won the 3000 meters (10:40.36) and took second in the 800 meters (2:25.08). Jamie Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) was the winner in the long jump with a distance of 17’ 2” (5.23 meters). She was also second in the 55 meter hurdles (8.83).

Magan Kustera (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) captured first in the high jump with 5’ 1.75” (1.57 meters). Kayla Leahey (fr. Keansburg, NJ/Warwick Valley) had a first place in the pole vault with a height of 10’ 11.75” (3.35 meters). She broke her own school record (10’ 8”, 3.25), which she set last week at the New York City Gotham Cup (Jan. 14). In the shot put, Jess Lomanaco (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) won with a throw of 35’ 7.25” (10.85 meters).

Jessica Carlson (fr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) came in third in the triple jump (33’ 4”, 10.16 meters) and fourth in the 55 meter hurdles (8.87). Alli Catenacci (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) placed third in the one mile (5:36.70) and ninth in the 800 meters (2:35.34). Heidi DeGuzman (jr. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken) was fourth in the 55 meters (7.52). In the 400 meters, Amirah Muneer (jr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) took fourth (1:02.71), followed by Jacqui Nisbett (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury), sixth (1:03.60) and Tiffany Chamberlain (so. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.), eighth (1:03.90).

Grace Kaler (fr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) and Danielle Czohla (jr. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) were fifth (11:36.56) and eighth (12:03.76) respectively in the 3000 meters. Chamberlain had a sixth place in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.99. Sam Kamper (fr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) tied for sixth in the high jump with 4’ 7.75” (1.42 meters). Kustera finished fifth in the triple jump (32’ 5.5”, 9.89 meters). Samantha Stapleton (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) captured eighth in the one mile (5:51.14) and Priscila Antuna (fr. Waretown, NJ/Southern Reg.) was 10th (5:55.62). Arielle Moore (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) placed 10th in the shot put with a distance of 32’ 4.75” (9.87 meters).

The women were third in the 4x400 meter relay (4:18.88) and fifth in the 4x200 (1:53.03). The 4x400 relay was comprised of Thompson, Nisbett, Leahey and Muneer. DeGuzman, Leahey, Thompson and Beverlee Brownlee (so. Mt. Holly, NJ/Willingboro) made up the 4x200.

Rowan travels to the University of Delaware for the Thomson Invitational on Saturday, January 29 at 9:30 a.m.
