NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University men’s and women’s indoor track teams started the season at the New York City Gotham Cup on Friday. The meet was held at the Amory.
Jamie Thompson (fr. Monmouth Jct., NJ/South Brunswick) won the women’s long jump unseeded. She had a leap of 17’ 2.25” (5.24 meters). Jessica Carlson (fr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) was the winner in the triple jump unseeded with 34’ 10.25” (10.62 meters). She broke the University record of 34’ 6” (10.52 meters) that was held by Marketa Morse (1995). Jena Peacock (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) finished second in the one mile unseeded with a time of 5:17.30.
Kayla Leahey (fr. Keansburg, NJ/Warwick Valley) tied for fifth with 10’ 8” (3.25 meters) in the pole vault and she surpassed the Rowan school record. The previous mark was 10’ (3.05 meters) by Raye Teyssier in 2005 and 2006. Samantha Kamper (fr. Middletown, NJ/Middletown N.) and Magan Kustera (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) tied for 12th in the high jump. They each had a height of 4’ 11” (1.50 meters). Alli Catenacci (sr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) came in 12th (5:26.41) in the one mile unseeded. Thompson also had a 16th place (9.56) in the 60 meter hurdles. In the 1000 meter run, Grace Kaler (fr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) and Samantha Stapleton (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) were 23rd (3:19.02) and 24th (3:20.01) respectively. Tiffany Chamberlain (so. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) came in 25th (1:00.89) in the 400 meters.
The women’s distance medley relay took sixth place in 12:55.28 with Peacock, Leahey, Catenacci and Jenn Rawls (so. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.). The 4x800 meter relay finished 11th (10:56.84) and the 4x400 meter relay was 24th (4:19.80). The 4x800 meter relay included Stapleton, Christine Huynh (so. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany), Kaler and Gabby Prendergast (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.). Chamberlain, Amirah Muneer (jr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing), Beverlee Brownlee (so. Mt. Holly, NJ/Burlington) and Jacqui Nisbett (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) were on the 4x400 meter relay.
For the men, Eric DuBois (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) took seventh place (15:04.64) in the 5000 meters while Jake McCormack (jr. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) came in 18th (15:38.55) and Jeff Terebey (sr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) was 24th (16:04.48). Will Smith (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) was eighth (4:26.02) in the one mile unseeded and Mike Carotenuto (so. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) finished 25th (4:30.99).
In the long jump seeded, Kyle Hayes (sr. Pt. Pleasant, NJ/Pt. Pleasant Boro) was seventh with 22’ 5” (6.83 meters) followed by Mark Lisa (jr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) ninth (22’ 1.50”, 6.74 meters) and Andy Charles (fr. Newark, NJ/Atlantic City) was 22nd (20’ 7.75”, 6.29 meters). Adam Diekewicz (fr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) tied for eighth place in the pole vault unseeded. He had a height of 13’ 1.50” (4.0 meters). John Grinnell (fr. Farmingdale, NJ/Howell) took 11th place in the weight throw. His toss of 47’ 6.5” (14.49 meters) broke the school record of 44’ 9.5” (13.65 meters) by Robert Baumgartner (2003).
Rowan travels to Ursinus College on Friday, January 21 for the Collegeville Classic at 3 p.m.
